Liquid Culture Dextrose and Malt amounts 1

I made a liquid culture about two weeks ago and I used 1/2 tablespoon of dry malt extract and 1/2 tablespoon of corn sugar (dextrose) for 1.5 quarts of water. I was following this tek http://www.shroomery.org/9378/High-Quality-Liquid-Culture-Step-by-Step.
They look like this and have been exactly the same for about a week now. http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7361/1107072336wx0.jpg http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/8531/1107072337uq1.jpg
But I was reading http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6280307/an/0/page/0 today and he said used 1 tablespoon of dextrose and 1 tablespoon of malt per quart. Did I not use enough? Could this be why mine don't seem to be growing really?

if you're making a quart of LC, you're probably using 600ml of water.
you want about a 3-4% concentration of malt/dex.
600ml is about 122 teaspoons or about 41 tablespoons.
3% of that is about 1.22 tablespoons. 4% of that is about 1.63 tablespoons. that's total, for both dex and malt.
so ideally, you want about 2-3 teaspoons of each per quart. 3 teaspoons (1 tablespoon) each will bring you to around a 5% solution. Which is fine, but you don't want to go over that.
what you did came out to be a total of about 2.5%. that's a tad week, but it will work.
I suggest you stir those well and break up any white blobs you have.
what kind of filter is in the top of the jar? that's important.

Well I made three quart sized jars each half full, the 1 tablespoon total was for all three jars combined. Google tells me that 1 tablespoon is 14.78 ml. And I used 1500 ml. So 14.78/1500 is 0.0089... so about 1%. So that is probably way too low I guess.
My math tells me that I need another .85 of a tablespoon of malt/dextrose in each jar. Do you think it would work to put .85 tablespoon of malt/dextrose mixed with 10cc of water into a syringe, PC it for 10 minutes then inject it into the LC?
I am out of spores and I really don't want to waste these LC jars.
I drilled two holes in the lid. One is filled with RTV, the other is covered with micropore tape. The problem is that I am having a hard time stiring them well also. I have a couple clean nuts and bolts as an agitator in there but I can't stir too hard or else the micropore tape gets wet. Which allready happened to one and it is now contaminated with mold

micropore is a bad idea for that very reason.
I would just let it go and hope for the best.
you need to stir them though, every day. you need to break up those globs.

What would you suggest I do instead of micropore next time?
I was just making up the malt/dextrose solution to inject right now but I had to use 24cc of water to be able to disolve all the sugars. It seems you think that is a bad idea. I guess I will just let them go.
Would maybe making up a few more jars and seeing if I can't pull one of the little globs into a syringe and transfer to a proper jar work?

yes, the transfer idea will work, and probably is best.
if you can afford it, I strongly, strongly suggest you buy a magnetic stirrer, of of ebay or something, and a few stir bars. this will easily and very effectively fix your stirring problem. the stir bars are infinitely reusable too if you take care of them.
I suggest using whatman syringe filters as filters for LC jars. that's what I do. how I make my lids.
other folks use poly-fil or tyvek with some success. I know a guy that cuts small squares off of tyvek envelopes, on the part where there's adhesive. he sticks a square of the adhesive tyvek to each side of the hole, top and bottom of the lid. on the other side of the jar in an inoculation port. works for him just fine. I like the syringe filters though.

Actually I am in the process of building a stir plate right now so we will see how that goes.
I will look around and see how much some of those whatman syringe filters cost. Any suggestions on where to buy? So can they get wet without an issue then? When using tyvek can that get wet also without an issue?

the whatman filters can get wet, yes. and they're fine if they do. I think mushy mart has them.
if you do the tyvek like that guy I know, it should work. the bottom piece will get wet, but there's an air gap between the bottom piece and the top piece, keeping the top piece dry. thereby allowing it all to work. I feel safer with the whatmans though.
