Heatbomb problems
    #7637308 - 11/14/07 08:32 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I went to petco and bought the Aquatic Gardens Submersible Aquarium Heater 50 Watt, for $26.
I did the tek thats somewhere on Shroomery, and now that it's done I tried to test it out. the heater turns off for like 10 minutes before turning on for like 5 min.. I don't think its producing enough heat for colonization i think.. anyone had similar problems with the heat bomb?

edit: the bottom of the heater is touching the bottom of the bottle..

I wonder if there's a way to disable the auto shutoff on heaters... now that i think about it i'm sure they'd get way too hot haha, I'm baked.

A 50W heater is probably not enough for a heatbomb. My 200-watter did fairly well, but I still had a problem controlling the temperature to a steady level.

Once the water in the bomb heats up to your max temp wich is most likely 86 on that style of heater, it is going to shut off. If the air inside your inc chamber is still cooler than 86 it will begin to cool your water bottle off as soon as it shuts off.

If you have a well insulated fruiting chamber, this will coninue to happen for about a day or so until the air in the chamber stays close to 86, making the cool down time of the heat bomb much slower.

Leave it unchecked, heavily insulated IE blankets, foil, foam, ect. If you don't get a temp in about the low to mid 80's in twenty four hours, it isnt going to work.

Even my submersible double tub heater takes a full day to get the water to 85 and then it holds it very well. However it is a lower wattage heater, so If I didnt wrap a sleeping bag around it, it wouldnt stay in the 80's at all. Hope this helps.
