The Plan.

OK, it goes something like this. My friend has a F-350 Diesel truck he is going to convert to veg oil. Soon, I will be purchasing a 22-25' cabin cruiser hull, and installing a diesel engine in that and converting it to veg oil. Then I will be visiting Chinese restaurants collecting many, many gallons of used oil. The conversion will cost less than $1000 dollars. Then I will then be making many, many trips to many, many, different islands in the Caribbean all for free (after initial costs). I have a food dehydrator and will be eating a lot of jerky, Ramen noodles, and cheap food of that sort, and taking pictures of me with my arms around hot girls in hot bathing suits. You are all invited.

Sounds like an awesome time man.
Even if some things do go wrong, it's all for the experience. Go for it.

are you native to the Caribbean? I went there last summer... and it's not all happy people with beautiful houses along the beach that you see in a resort's pamphlet. These are third world countries. Most people literally live in shacks. Your boat will probably get stolen or your stuff will get stolen off your boat. And I'm sure you'll probably need the proper paperwork to go from Island to Island, plus some type of permit for your boat...
For the cost of the boat/engine/etc you can get a 7-day cruise. Leave touring the Islands via boats to the professionals... unless you know people at each Island. The Caribbean is a very dangerous place... especially if you're white. They'll steal your passports, or at the very lest, charge you 2-4 times more for things.
It sounds like a pretty retarded thing to do.
Unless, like I said, you're actually from the caribbean.

Any simple minded douche, his fat wife, and annoying kids can get a false sense of how the world is by going on a cruise. Going off by yourself and seeing the world for how it is is the only way to truly educate yourself. Doing what he plans to do is the only respectable way to travel the way I see it.
I don't like quotes but... "...learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open mindedness, chaotic, confused vulnerability to inform yourself."

LOL
I went to the REAL caribbean with my roomie. this wasn't no five-star resort vacation, I lived in the heart of the Caribbean in a house that was literally a barn. In fact, I've seen stables people keep their cows in nicer than this. and the kicker? it was considered "nice". People literally live in shacks. No water system. Caribbean countries are third world and VERY poor. Almost all their economy is seasonal tourist income (which mostly goes right back to the parent companies in the US and Europe) ... aside from industrial islands that have oil. (which is usually owned by people in the Middle East).
and I am here to say, Muffin will not be in a good position to just gallyvant around the Caribbean.
You can have your little granola hippy quote about exploring the world... but here's a quote that fits this situation that you can take to the bank
"give me all ya' money now white boy, or I'll cut ya throat!"
Oh, and not to mention the rest of the world DESPISES Americans. There will be no time to explain how "enlightened" some of us are when compared to the rest of our stupid American brethren. We're all the same in their eyes.
You truly are ignorant to think you can just go into very hostile and dangerous places and think you're adventurous spirit will make you invincible to the real dangers.
Have you been to the caribbean, and lived among the locals? Do you know anyone who lived there? My guess is probably not. So until you can speak from experience, and not some quote from a fortune cookie, shut up.
This "plan" is in no way feasible, unless Muffin is a native to the caribbean.
EDIT:
Oh and I might add, that while I was there, despite the BARS around the windows and a "patio" that surrounded the house, that basically looked like a prison cell, people busted down a wall of the house we were in. They didn't take anything of real value, but the place was turned upside down. The family there said the intruders were probably looking for my passport. Although they hate Americans, living in America it better than the island, and there are several caribbean communities in the states. Particularly in NYC

I have done some sailing in the Caribbean. It,s not that hard to do as long as you can prove you have money(bank card). No Country wants dead beats to show up. They have plenty of their own and there are a lot of thief's. You can carry a gun but you have to give it up every time you enter a port.
It will be hard to find vegetable oil in the amount you need.
And don't forget when burning vegetable oil you will smell like a french fry.

Whoa, like, nobody answered this post for hours, then it gets like 9 replies while I'm freakin stoned. So my reply. You are a bunch of vaginas. I have been to some very dangerous places before. I have also been in some dangerous situations. If you are not retarded, you will be OK for the most part. If I get robbed, it wont be the first time. I will not get my freaking boat stolen. I am not going to spend my life not doing what I want because I'm afraid of the dark. I know 2 people that have spent YEARS cruising the Caribbean. (Mostly the Bahamas)They still have their boat. Be careful, do research, and keep an open eye and an open mind, and chances are you will be OK. But then again, I don't have a vagina, so maybe I'm just a little more bad ass then you. Pessimists are will walk the plank. (oh, you are right about the fuel, but on short trips, I can get there and back, plus it will still run on diesel if I get in a pickle.)
