Rodriguez fires Boras?
    #7635566 - 11/14/07 03:01 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Well, it's all over the radio today from people who generally are not poo flingers ( ala Peter Gammons). A-Rod is talking to the Yanks directly. The Yankees won't allow Boras in the room. Long time overdue, if you ask me. He may have met his match in Hank Steinbrenner. I won't even bother passing along the numbers I heard but I think A-Rod is quite pissed about how Boras has handled this, what with the ninth inning announcement and the opt out without any conversation at all. I guess he actually does want to be a Yankee, after all. All of a sudden it doesn't look so good for the competition, what with team turmoil re-signing Posada and probably A-Rod and probably Rivera, improving their manager, and keeping their prospects for the, don't look, Santana sweepstakes. I'd much rather re-sign A-Rod and use Melky and/or one of the baby pitchers for Santana than for Miguel Cabrera. If Pettite comes back that is one formidable staff.

Things are looking up indeed. I was very surprised to hear that A-Rod reached out to the Yankees. That shows to me that he's obviously disgusted with Boras and that he does want to be a Yankee. This is very surprising considering he's been with that pimp since he was 16. From the looks of things he wanted to be a Yankee all along but under Boras's advise he thought that hecould make out like a bandit off the Steinbrenners by creating a media circus. What makes me think this is  that it's awful funny that after Hank basically told him to fuck off and was ready to have an arbitration (A-Rod definitely would have not returned after said arbitration) he's now personally reaching out to the Yanks.

Some people are saying that he's only coming back because he couldn't get the big money deal he wanted elsewhere but I don't believe that. Being the best played in the game he could obviously get a very solid deal from pretty much any team that can both afford and use him (and there are a couple). Apparently Sterling called into Michael Kay and said something about a 275 million 10 year deal. Who knows how reliable that statement is though. If it is true we may very well see A-Rod break the HR record in the Bronx.

Sign Posada, Mo, and A-Rod... trade off some of the younger guys for a Johan deal and we're in business for next season.

Posada is signed, Mo has been offered the highest contract for a closer in history, if those numbers are real for A-Rod ( I had not heard it was Sterling) they are reasonable, the manager is better and if the baby pitchers are anywhere near what they look to be......I got a big ole boner. What's left? Pujolz at first? Next year baby, next year.

If we signed Pujols (along with A-Rod, Mo, Posada, and Santana) I'd be so excited I'd keel over and die a very happy man on the spot. It's too bad he's not a FA.

If you wait a few years, you can probably get Prince Fielder from Milwaukee...

There is a new rumor going around that Rivera is asking for a fourth year despite that extremely over the top deal he was offered. I don't know what to think about this... thats if it's even true.

For the life of me I can't figure out where this shit comes from. I seem to recall Mo saying he wasn't sure if he wanted to play THIS long and now somebody says he wants extra years? Fuck it, I say, give him the extra year. He'll probably retire anyway.

Yeah if this is true I'd probably give him the extra year. There's not many others I'd rather have closing down the game... even if he is 38 years old he's still damn good at what he does.

Boston.com breaking news says he agreed to terms to come back with the Yanks -

"$275 million, 10-year contract, a deal that potentially would allow him to earn millions more if he sets the career home-run record, the AP is reporting."
