get a pot ready, plant it, and dont water for a while so the roots will seek out water and establish themselves.

congrats on the loph, very beautiful.

It's a she? Put her in a nice comfy pot, she's probably exhausted with jet lag.  :smile2:

Very nice cactus, should be getting mine soon too.

Congratulations looks beautiful!- However I don't really like the that soil, I've used it before and found it has too much crap in it like pointless big sticks and twigs. You may want to filter it through a 1/2" x 1/2" wire mesh screen to filter out any big non-composted  material that will steal nitrogen when it breaks down- but that may not be really important as I don't think Lophs love nitrogen as much as most plants. However it wouldn't be a bad idea to add some course sand and some lime to the soil.
OH-search the tufts for old dried seed pods, you may get lucky!

Looks like it could be Texana...

I'm so damn jealous. I've been looking for her for over a decade with no luck. Maybe she and I were never meant to be..

I think the closest I've ever been is stuck in San Antonio with no knowledge of where to look.

looking good man   i agree, that soil is not the greatest.  make sure you remove any twigs and bits that may be in there.  and add some sand/grit like mentioned

"she" is certainly a williamsii   one could call her a texana i guess, but no known location so williamsii may be more appropriate.

just remember if you find it wild, dont dig up the roots, just take cuttings at soil level. i used to know of a video that taught you how to search for peyote in the wild. the guy said something about always looking behind south-east-or west(cant remember exactly) facing hills/dips in terrain, behind or in shrubbery where there will be least sun, hotness and dryness. at any rate, the places i saw him most discovering peyote was with other plants, usually growing underneath or inside bushes.

he made it look extremely easy, so dont expect this info to help, he is a professional gatherer for the native american church. why he made a video for everyone to see is beyond me.

by the way, that is the type of soil i use for my cacti, i havent had any problems with it myself, i have only lost two non-psychoactive cacti with it.

say, perhaps you're right. she has spiral ribs instead of straight ones and she
has alot of hair instead of little tufts.
and i compared her seeds to another pack of peyote seeds..
hers were a little bit bigger..
so maybe it is texana..cool!!

could be considered as such, but "texana" is really just plant originating from texas, just so happens many have lots of hair and spiral, like your new cactus   but some regular williamsii have long hair and spiral ribs too.  the seeds should not be different, thats just the difference of fresh and old seeds i would think....or the individual.

yup, just call it williamsii, it is impossible to identify williamsii to an exact region based on morphology, morphology is way too variable plant to plant... the only way to know for sure is to grow from field collected seed, or buy from a grower who is reliable and grows from field collected seed.

u will see the variation when those seeds grow out playwithguns :yesnod:
