Cure for munchies and burnout?
#7635425 - 11/14/07 02:28 PM (16 years, 2 months ago) |

So first lets talk about the munchies. Honestly i used to love having the munchies and gobbling down any variety of sweets and salties etc but now when i get high i spend shitloads of money on munchies and usually its like junk food and shit. Do you know of any foods that are cheap and counter the munchies well? Personally i find canned stews and stuff are ok but i'd like some of your opinions.
Secondly burnout. Aside from being a cool racing game for xbox, its a pain in the ass. I hate smoking and then needing to fall asleep, is there anything you guys would take to help counter burnout? Also is there any other chem you can combine with weed to prevent burnout altogether? I have yet to determine for sure if energy drinks help.
Anyways if you folks could provide some suggestions for this it would help me out alot because these 2 things sometimes piss me off so much.

Go to a supermarket and bulk buy chocolate bars for very cheap. Hard boiled sweets, also- just one or two tends to cure my munchies.

Energy drinks seem to help me with burnout, look on the back to see which ones have the most caffeine.

the best way is to buy better weed. I find that good weed for the most part doesn't leave me feeling tired after the high wears off, or during the high. You could also time when you smoke. Strategically make it before dinner or lunch. That way, you aren't eating what you weren't going to eat anyway.
As for energy drinks, I find those don't help me wake up in the least. Sure they have lots of ingredients that are supposed to help, but i never notice anything different in my tiredness. Coffee, and tea is the way to go there IMO.
But the cure of munchies is to eat, and the cure for burn out is sleep. There's not too much science to it. If you get munchies and don't want to spend money, then just don't.

A bowl of spicy chili and rice fills one up and is healthy. Its also good after outside sessions in the winter. You can then have a energy drink such as rockstar burner or one that does not taste like redbull (as they dry out your mouth).

the munchies are all in your head, once you realize how much eating kills your high you won't want to eat after you smoke. Try to eat and then smoke so you can stay high.

Caffeine is the way to go i couldn't imagine smoking pot without drinking loads of caffeine drink energy drinks/mate tea/green tea/coffee/coke or which ever you prefer (green tea is the most healthy, energy drinks are the most efficient) before, after and during smoking if you're REALLY hungry, eat some slices of brown bread, preferrably with cheese, so you get your carbohydrates and your proteins and drink caffeinated drinks right afterwards it will kill the munchies i almost completely eliminated them this way this doesn't mean, you don't enjoy food anymore you just don't NEED to have it try it out and see how it goes the minor drawback is: you become a caffeine-addict so then you have two addictions interlaced with each other: pot and caffeine and if you drink a lot of caffeine, you will smoke more pot means that, both your caffeine and your THC consumption will drastically increase

to counter the burnout, use stimulants. i prefer caffeine because it's cheap and easily accessible and i don't want to waste amphetamines just to get out of a burn. so i drink some energy drinks, or pop some nodoz/vivarin.

I don't get the munchies much, nor do I get burnout much.
Have you ever noticed that on 90% of my posts my status is "stoned?" While it's true I'm not stoned for ALL of those posts, I am stoned for the vast majority of them. Smoke all day and you'll stop burning out.

my suggestion would be to order some PURE caffeine on e-bay, and do a few rails, it might burn a lil and taste pretty bitter but it really ups your energy.

I've smoked regularly for ~3 months. More than weekly, less than daily. And I don't want to brag or anything but all of the shit here is dank as hell, so that's also a factor.

Yeah man I'm sure you just don't notice it, it took me smoking 3-4 times a day for 6 months to realize that food "tasting good" wasn't worth the buzzkill that it gave me. If you start smoking everyday you will definitely notice it, because you are so used to being stoned you can just tell.

I tried searching for an explanation of how THC affects hunger, but I couldn't find very much. Some sources said that no one has a definitive answer yet, although I did find one source that said, "THC activates the endogenous opioid system that mediates food palatability." Some sources also mention that THC in particular increases cravings for specific kinds of food, most notably food with high levels of sugar such as chocolate or candy.
But anyway, personally I too found that eating does kind of bring the high down a bit. I'm really not sure why, and it might just be a placebo effect. It doesn't completely kill the high for me, but just kind of dampens it. I've found though that whenever I eat, I have a hard time paying attention and enjoying what I'm eating, and usually after I finish I'm disappointed and wonder how I finished it so quickly and why I'm still hungry. It can be a vicious cycle.
Also, ever notice that you get tired after eating a lot? That may be contributing to the burnout you're experiencing.
I do still get tired after smoking sometimes, especially during the comedown, and for that I like to make myself a nice big cup of iced coffee. I love drinking iced coffee after smoking because not only do I love the taste, but it obviously gives a nice caffeine boost. Caffeine should also speed up your metabolism, so that might negate some of the hunger.

I'm not sure if getting hungry has a correlation with the frequency of smoking, but through the years I have found that I don't get quite as hungry as I used to.
Because I have to smoke a lot more now than I did when I started smoking, I have more of a problem with cotton mouth than I do with hunger these days, and honestly I don't know which of the two is worse.

My bro makes this insanely strong coffee-type sludge. When you take a couple sips you can feel the caffeine rushing to your head. Drinking that shit stoned is quite an experience, I'll tell you that.

That sounds like my kind of coffee. If you're not drinking it strong, you might as well not be drinking it.
There really is nothing better than sitting down with a nice fat bowl and a nice fat cup of iced coffee.
And it really sucks since I ran out of coffee the last time I had pot, so I bought some more coffee a few days ago...but now I'm out of pot.

Good suggestions. I second the following: - Smoke before you were going to eat a meal anyways. I usually smoke, and then prepare dinner. By the time I eat, I am starving and by the time I finish the meal, I feel quite full and no longer have any munchies. - Buy better weed. When I smoke garbage, I feel like garbage. Properly grown/cured buds seldom make me feel anything but high. No sleepiness involved. - Caffeine does help to some degree if you are still feeling tired. Coffee and energy drinks are my top choices.

I find it best to just abstain from eating. Once you stop eating all the time while you are high you will notice that the munchies will go away. I decided to try this after I noticed that I would just eat and eat when I was high. I just couldn't stop eating. I would eat to the point that I would feel like complete shit and then I would still eat more. I finally said that I need to have some self control and just stopped eating while high.
And believe it or not that helps alot with the getting tired portion.

LOL. Did you forget indicas? OG is arguably the most potent "best" weed and it definitely makes everyone who smokes it "burnout" an hour or two after smoking. UNLESS you have an absurd tolerance to it. The best way to avoid the burnout in my experience (as someone who has puffed 9 g's of OG bho in the past 4 weeks) is not by adding more drugs to the equation (which kinda works I guess) but rather just building up a tolerance. I no longer crash and burn just because I have become very very accustomed to the narcotic effect of the OG, im sure the same can work for any other type of indica, try making oil so you can truly become acquainted with the effects of the bud...

Smoke in lower doses, and if you can try to buy more sativas.
A coffee or glass of tea with the bowl, joint, etc. will help with it resulting in you being tired.
If you get hungry have fruit and make yourself a deli sandwich.

Exactly. I always eat something BEFORE i smoke. That way i don't get the munchies. And if i do get the munchies i can rationalize with myself and manage not to eat anything. Also smoking higher quality does really help with the burnout. Or you could strictly smoke sativa strains, which i am incapable of doing due to the fact that pure sativa strains are rare from my dealers.

fruit and veggies are definately the best.
I find that having a well-stocked veggie crisper is the best plan because it only takes about 10-20 minutes to steam cook any variety of veggies. I'm talking broccoli, cauliflower, broccoliflower (That fractal mix of the two) carrots, beans, fuck man anything that is good for you because you will stuff yourself with it regardless and you can never have enough veggies.
Fruit is good too because its usually 0 prep time. Chips are horrible to get when you have the munchies because they are expensive, they don't fill you up, and if you have a semi-sensitive digestive system you can be fucked for days from eating too many in one sitting.

that is true. being active while high makes you more energetic- like when I skate, it is a whole different high.
Also I personally prefer to blaze at night- during the day- burnout can be annoying if I have to deal with social situations that have nothing to do with my stoner friends- love blazing with my buddies though
weed burnout is tricky though- I drink green tea in the morning after a night of blazing to get me up- but lately I try to only blaze small amounts if I blaze during the day- like even just a small hit or nothing at all
As for munchies--- I find putting something like a ludens in my mouth keeps the food part of my mind active........... or a decent meal doesn't hurt ether----- the high is more intense without food and that keeps me from eating a lot
