Small clear jelly chunks on pf cakes?? There back!!!! DOES NO ONE KNOW??
    #7634311 - 11/14/07 10:14 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Lastnight checking my cakes and giving some nice FAE, i noticed that there was these tiny chunks of clear stuff on them, there mostly squarish and have the consistancy of jelly!!!

They were recently dunked and rolled in verm a few days ago. Im wondering if somehow there was something in my verm that i didnt notice, it was verm i got with a growbag a while back.

I removed as much of it as i could see at the time and left it sitting on my kitchen work top for further inspection the next day, and when i got up, most of it had disapeared!!!

Im really unsure of what it is, i dont think its contamination, it doesnt seem to have grown or anyting since removing, when i get home ill check again and remove anything i have missed.

Ill try and get a picture of the bits i remove.

Its complelty clear and squishy like jelly, no smell. Odd!!

Maybe its that moisture control crap that some soils have in it. I can't recall what it is called. But I have some in this water retaining soil that is used for hanging basket plants. They are squarish, clear, and jelly like when wet, and hold alot of water.

When I was doing a casing i dropped a chunk of broken cake on the carpet, not wanting to use it the casing anymore just to be 100% sure of no contams, I threw it back in a jar and hoped it would maybe fruit a couple little mushies if it was still alright. So there is one little mushie growing off if it right now, and a second one that has become over run with the same clear scentless jelly..... it hasnt had any spread or effect on the rest of the cake chunk, and the mushie that isnt covered in it is looking plump and fresh... i have no idea what it is, anybody help identify it?

So the first picture is the biggest chunk that was sitting on the perlite, and the 2nd pic is what i took out the FC that i could get a hold of. none of it is on the cakes anywhere and i dont think its growing.

They are like clear jelly, the bits on them are verm and perlite. To make things weirder is that they disapear complelty if left outside of the FC.

All I can say about it is I have seen it and it's not contamination.

Yeah i was thinking that too, just curious to what it is and how it got in my FC, and why it only seems to survive in there.

I think im gonna buy fresh perlite and clean out my FC, infact i wanna make a new one. A proper nice looking one instead of a half asses attempt that has tape all over the place keeping things intact.

Ok so im checking my fruiting chamber 2da giving it some nice FAE, and notice that they have appeared again, the last time i removed most of it but some still remained.

I decided to replace the foil that 2 of the cakes were sitting on as there was alot of verm + the jelly stuff there, and discover that there was quite a bit of the jelly stuff on the bottom!

I relaly didnt want to have to touch my cakes as 1 has quite a pinset going on but i had no choice.

Is there anyone that can shed some light on this unknown clear jelly that keeps apearing!!
