im currently cultivating 4 jars of golden teacher shrooms. i have the jars on a heat pad kept at around 90 degrees farenheit. they wer growing really quick but dnt seem to be growing quite so quick at the minute. is this due to having the temp a bit too high. i realise that it is reccomended to keep p.cubensis strains at around 86 degrees.. wud the 4-5 degrees make much difference. thanx for any replies.. shroomhead07

I believe that is way too high. the recommended is 86 but you also have to take into consideration the internal heat of the myc. so I keep mine around 80-81. So for it seems to work great for me.

Keep it 75-80. Anything above 80 is going to dry out your substrate and promote contams.

81 degrees F. has always been very good to me.
90 degrees F. is way too hot!~
and a heating pad will cause a fire...
they were not made to be used for long periods of time running 24/7.
unless you are talking about a reptile heating pad.

I'm keeping mine at 80-82F as well but it's only been 3 days since inoculation so no signs of growth yet, obviously. Roadkill, how about a heating blanket on low setting? It's wrapped around the incubator and I have it running at 3 (it goes up to 10) and it's always slightly warm to the touch but keeps the incubator nice and cozy @ ~81F at all times... I wouldn't think it's much of a fire hazard but you never know with these things...
Oh yea, and 90F is way too much I'd think.. Even mid 80's is pushing it as inside the jars is always a couple degrees higher.

75 is just fine, 80-82 is more optimal, 90 is definatly too hot and could actually slow growth down, and also encourage contams to grow.
I have even recently been incubating lower as its getting colder and havnt adjusting my heating yet.
Until u have alot of experience i think its better to be extra safe and incubate at room temperature, even some of the more experienced growers use room temperature.
On saying that there is nothing wrong with incubating, just be extra sure that your temps are not creeping to unsafe levels when ur not looking.

mush appreciated for all the quick replies. the heating pad i use is for reptiles. it seems to be going alrite but im going to try and find a way of adjusting the temp. the room temperature at the moment is about 60-65 degrees which i think will slow it down. last time i tried at room temp it took forever. ill try adjust the temp. many thanx. shroomhead07
