Intelligent Design on Trial

Catch this great documentary/re-enactment on Nova/PBS if you can. It covers the 2005 Grover, PA schoolboard trial on teaching ID in science class.
Unsurprising (to me) was the fact that a pastor and a schoolboard member both in favor of ID lied under oath. (Truth NEVER needs shoring up!) Only 3 of the 8 'experts' on ID actually showed up for the trial. Seems 5 of them realized how ridiculous it would make them look after the Plaintiffs made such a strong case.
Judge Jones, a conservative republican, made the correct decision and ruled ID was NOT science and could not be taught as such.
Naturally, he received many death threats from 'loving' Christians concerning his ruling and required FBI protection for a time (how fucking sick is that? WWJD?); and follower of Christ, Pat Robertson had to inject his usual poison in wishing a calamity on the town.
Do a Google search to read more.

It always amazes me how violent people can become when others question their faith.

Even when their CORE teaching is about love. Unbelievable.
Two of the evolutionary teachers against ID were devout Christians. They were also threatened and constantly referred to as 'atheists' even having been in the community for years and contributing much.
That 'evil science' many proclaimed as they drove to work in their cars and followed the trial on the internet.

I fear Christianity these days has little to do with Christ.

It amazes me how prominent religion still is in education, politics, etc. in a country that claims to be the 'land of the free' (and many other countries, for that matter). True freedom, in my opinion, would involve the separation of religion and state completely. Regardless of my religious views, I wouldn't want these crackpots teaching my children (if I had any) something that is based on flawed arguments and has yet to produce something of scientific merit. Even worse is the fact that the leader of the free world is spewing religious bullshit about 'God telling him to fight the terrorists in Afghanistan and end the tyranny in Iraq'. It's not enough that religious zealots demand the right to permeate the educational system, but even political leaders are being chosen with their religious views in mind, rather than real politics...
