What's the best tube amp that suits your tastes for exellent tone when playing the electric guitar?
some swear by mesa boogie, others wouldn't buy anything but a custom amp, and some demand a vintage fender. what's your choice, and why?

I play a Dr. Z Maz 38 Sr. with the Celestion Blues speaker upgrade. Best amp I have ever owned. I had a Soldano SLO100 half stack that I liked but the clean tone was seriously lacking (as in my cheap ass Peavey Bandit had a better clean) so I sold it and bought the Maz.
I like the way it handles pedals. I can get a nice syrupy clean and then kick on my Fulltone OCD and get a nice smooth distortion.
Plus I love the red colour

i go back and forth between mesas and fender twin. nothing beats a properly dialed in mesa for dirt, but nothing comes close to a fender twin for clean. i toured as a professional musician for years and then as a professional guitar tech with MAJOR bands. all the best rigs i saw used fender twins and mesas... the twin for clean and the mesa for dirt.

I'd really like to get ahold of a Mesa MarkIV and play with all the knobs for about 3hrs.

For my personal tastes, I prefer a Peavey Classic Chorus 2x12.... I like the lows and highs up with the mids way down, and it delivers.... Plus, the chorus part is really f'n cool for jammin by yourself - which is what I do mostly now days.... I have a Peavey XXX 3/4 stack, but prefer the 2x12 classic chorus....
Had a Marshall stack, and a Laney half stack - I could never dial in either of those British amps to my sonic liking....
Played around with a Bogner for a while - nice deep lows, but I didn't get a chance to see if I could "dial it in".....

Indeed.... I believe PRS has a patent on the diving doves fret markers.... I have a pre 94' translucent purple tiger striped PRS, but no doves....

Its a PRS Custom 22, 10 top flame. I modified it somewhat by swapping the rotary switch out, and replacing it with a 3 way switch and a push/pull tone knob for coil tapping. Also swapped pickups for some Lindy Fralin un-buckers.
Here's a link where I describe my setup in detail for those interested.
