nice boletus i don´t know the specie, maybe alan or someone else like toxic man or any other mood ,
many boletus bruise blue and more colors, you should look all the changes ,open one especiemn in two and see the fast reaction and all color that appear, the toxic blue ones have red pores all the time.-

In North America there are no deadly boletes. You can still get pretty sick eating the wrong ones.

I can't tell from your photos - look *very* closely at the surface of the stem (especially near the top) and see if there is a net-like pattern of tiny ridges. If there is, how far down the stem does it go?

What kinds of trees were growing nearby. Nearby in this case means close enough that if you cut the tree down it could possibly hit you.

Happy mushrooming!

None of the boletes are deadly poisonous.

If it stains blue or has red pores it is very important to ID it to species.

The fat stem makes it look like a butter bolete.

It has somewhat of a "net" like pattern, like tiny red/pink interwoven hairs(they aren't consisten in a patern but look somewhat like a net.)It goes maybe 1/4-1/3 of the way down the stipe.

It was near oaks and other pines(not sure what pines but definately alot of oaks around).

From the site Alan gave me it looks pretty damn identical. And i don't mind risking some pain in the pursuit of gaining knowledge as long as i don't die.;)

Here is a photo taken by angryshroom that shows very well what I'm referring to. On this particular species the pattern is darker ridges on a pale stem, but they don't have to be dark colored. It's often easier to see if you are careful to have the light on the mushroom from the side.

If that pattern exists, does it extend more or less than halfway down the stem?

Happy mushrooming!

ya gotta love boletes. If you find more, try slicing about 1/4 inch slabs, sautee in butter, until lightly brown. Add a little bit of minsed garlic a couple minutes before you stop sauteeing and serve over linguine. Add parmesan on top. Add salt to your liking. I had a mouthgasm last time I did this.
