In all honesty, I do vote. And my criticisms are more directed at elections in general than this particular election. I'll probably briefly register as a Republican in order to vote for Ron Paul(unless I decide to support Kucinich). So ya, I'm a voter. It's just that this pretentious attitude about how voting is your civic duty and the key to bringing about genuine change annoys me, as it presupposes that there will be someone worth voting for(last election, even the third party candidates seemed worthless). This election presents a special case, as there is a Democrat(Kucinich) and a Republican(Ron Paul) who actually have genuine character. They won't win the primaries, so it seems that those are the most important elections to show up for. Anyway, my main reason for voting is the ballot measures.

If someone is too stupid, whiny, or lazy to vote, good. I'd rather that person stay home than make a misinformed judgment for who to vote for. Frankly, I wish you had to pass a citizenship test or other sort of equivalent means of measuring political efficacy to be allowed to vote.

To all you shovel-faced mongoloids out there, be patriotic next election and stay home. Emphasis on home, because most of you who are too lazy to vote don't have jobs anyways.

Or introduce a no confidence vote.

This idea could be GENIUS.

Mandatory voting with a no-confidence option.

Watch 60% of americans vote 'no confidence' in their government...let's get
to the heart of the matter...government, it's time for you to go.

I'd vote if there was a no-confidence vote, whether it was mandatory or not

So you want to completely adopt the elitist model of government?  Elitists already decide who gets into the elections and you believe they should decide who wins also? We all know intelligence is paramount when measuring ones self worth, right? I don't blame the lack of voter turnout completely to willing apathy on the part of the American people because the media has almost forced apathy on us by keeping us throughly under informed.

You people who are saying there is no good candidate to vote for need to realize that while none of them maybe perfect, one of them is gonna get elected. why just leave it to chance as to who that one is? why not get off your ass and actually help make a decision as to who does win. Yea i hear ya, one vote means nothing. But when you talk about that vote with your friends and maybe they agree with you, or even disagree, either way in the end it means something. don't be another ant in the colony just bitching about the way things are without doing anything to change it....

Yeah... wealthy people in other parts of the world have done nothing to contribute to the misery & suffering so prevalent in other parts of the world. If you honestly had to go back only to the early 19th century & choose between being a child in what's now Rwanda or being a (forced) child factory laborer in London, Berlin, Paris, New York City or wherever... I would guess you'd choose the former if you really had to make the choice.

And yeah, somewhere like rural India is presently a pretty shitty place to be, but not because the peasants living there made it as such. The theft of their groundwater & massive amounts of pollution dumped into their environment by Coca Cola aren't exactly due to their choosing.

Luckily I don't have to make that choice, and neither do you. I'm not attempting to condone the actions of greedy men or corporations the world over. Nor am I trying to judge history for the purpose of an internet forum.

2007, I'd rather be in the United States than anywhere else.

Agreed, but then again, I don't leave my ballot blank. There are plenty of other failing political systems the world over that you could subscribe to instead.

My favorite jeans are from Kentucky Hemp Outfitters, and they've served me well for near a decade.

If my wife would allow it, I'd always wear hemp. However, it seems Viet Nam and Thailand will continue to suffer for my fashion horrors.

I vote every chance I get. I've always voted third parties as much as possible. Nader 2 elections in a row, mother fuckers. Generally if there's no third party I vote against the incumbent. It's always been my opinion that if you don't vote than you have no right to complain about politics. I think voting should be mandatory. If you don't show up to vote or at the very least sign your name saying you at least showed up at the polling place than you have to pay a fine.
