let me clarify lacrosse cost from earlier.
Where i lived, lacrosse was not sanctioned by the states interscholastic athletic association, meaning it wasn't officially a school sport. Thus, the "high school" team was a club sport - but represented by the high school, and the state which hosted state HIGH SCHOOL championships . . . even though it wasn't santfioned by the states IAA.

I think it was largely that area. We had a big indoor soccer/hockey thing, and it really caught on big. They put up fliers on the doors and halls at school, and word of mouth carried it the rest of the way. although we had a municipal court and one or two dedicated hockey stores. I think it was a combonation of the city UHL team and local uh.."trend"..orwhatever, it caught on in a big way is what i'm trying to say.
one state from where I was. Now I'm a bit more south nowadays and theres a very, very, very small hockey contingent here, and yet we have a much more popular team down here. Thats why i think it was just an isolated thing in TN.
ramble...ramble.

My favorite sport now is hockey. I like watching it on tv every once and a while.
When i lived in illinois we had a pond in the backyard that would freeze over and play hockey every year. Good times.

Hockey is the best sport there is. I agree.

man, oh man. i'm getting rather worried about this paper. it's nearly 4am, i'm on page 5. i'm not really worried about hitting the minimum page length as i am about simply completing it and making it a decent paper by thursday. i've been working all night and am still not even through the first quarter of the paper.
the four quarters i've broken it into for my super-simplified outline is: 1) economic costs of children/adolescents in sports (meaning monetary costs, opportunity costs for time spent, etc) 2) social costs (all relatively subjective and case-based.. gonna pull a lot from sociologists in books i've checked out) 3) economic benefits (i figure this will be a relatively short section. will explore the few who make it big, how big they make it, and the probability of making it big. also will mention the well-roundedness sports gives an individual that makes one more attractive on college applications) 4) social benefits (i figure this section will be rather large. again, lot of stuff pulled from the work of sociologists in books i've checked out. not a lot of my own input.) and that doesn't include the introduction, conclusion, or discussion of whether said costs outweigh said benefits.
i'm still only halfway through economic costs... fuck oh fuck.

I played soccer from age 6 or 7 through HS. Costs maybe 100 a year, I did stuff cheaply, but some kids dropped 150+ on cleats.
Ski Team (racing) Probably like 1,000 a year between equipment and passes ect. Again did it cheaply, knew people who spent upwards of 10k a year on the best of everything and extensive camps.
When I suddenly was good at racing (11th grade) my dad spent about 5k the last year on me, went to camp, got really nice top line skis, boots.
Played a small roll for me, wasn't a groupie in sports... still was known as a huge pot head and rolled with my stoner crew, just liked to play sports as well.
