PTSD and the meds that come with it
    #7632186 - 11/13/07 07:03 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

i have been told i have PTSD and am currently bing prescribed xanax(1mg 3 times a day as needed) and 100mg of zoloft in the morning and 50mg of serquol(sp?) for helping me stay asleep as i have the most realistic dreams of the even that happened to me and my psych. said that sarquil will hell me stay awake and should reduce my anxiety, i know its a low does but i am not a big pharm person and the zoloft was something i resisted at first but i finally got the script filled. my psych told me that the seroquil is a anti-psychotic but she doesn't think I'm psycho or bi-polar. i did a little snooping around the net and both zoloft and low dose serquil are indicated for PTSD but something in side me is still nervous about taking all this medication, the xanax seems to be helping the most. does anyone here have any experience with such meds or a similar combo?

Have you thought of seeing trauma resolution specialists like SE practitioners (http://www.traumahealing.com/registry.html)? Drugs you've been prescribed are okay for the time being, so you can stabilize yourself and gain some perspective on the entire thing, but they won't bring your resolution of the trauma vortex. I would recommend you read Waking The Tiger: Healing Trauma by Levine and Trauma and Recovery by Herman to understand your condition better and what you can do about it.

Good luck friend! PTSD is a bitch, but you have it in you to get through it - you survived didn't you?

Avoid the seroquel. If you need medication for PTSD, then by all means take the zoloft and xanax.
