i've read that spore syringes sometimes start to germinate before they have reached their destination. true this may be a small problem easily avoided by buying from viable vendors, but if this outcome were inevitable, regardless of impeccable sterile technique, would it be safer to go the spore print route, or buy spores in a vial?

For sterility; AGAR.. then Syringe from a reputable supplier Then print from a reputable grower.
for convince; syringe, print, agar

The only time I've seen germination within a syringe was when it was "left-over" from a previous inoculation and some minuscule amounts of nutrients made their way into the solution via the needle.
That being said, this time of year and for the next several months, syringes are a bit risky business during shipping because hydrated spores are not frost tolerant and don't make for good viewing after they've been ruptured by those jagged little ice-crystals.
Dehydrated spore prints are a safer bet during winter months although most vendors listed with these forums have very responsive and understanding customer service departments when it comes to shipping & handling mishaps regarding syringes...
