California Mushrooms in the Spring? (All) (also OR and WA)

My road trip the Pacific Northwest didn't work out, but wherever you looked there were fungi. Maybe next fall I'll go again, but I know this spring I'm going to be traveling all of California, then maybe Oregon and the Pacific Northwest (Washington) depending on my funds.
I'm not hunting any specific type of mushroom, I love photographing mushrooms, also I'd like to eat a morel for the first time.
Out of curiousity, what are the mushrooms like during the spring season? What types (from edibles to actives to inedibles to poisonous)will I see during the spring season, and what regions am I likely to find very photogenic fungi?
Thanks for your help! I'll use this information to photograph mushrooms, I want to put together a guide to all sorts of mushrooms, or at least contribute more photographs to pre-existing guides.

PNW will have a lot of mushrooms during the spring, but, not as much as during the fall and winter. Depending on where you are, (latitude) you will find different species. Amanita Velosa, or the springtime amanita shows up around the wild Iris throughout central to northern california.
During the springtime, you will also likely find chantrelles in california, however north will already have been exhausted.
Russula's also enjoy the springtime. There will be a lot to choose from, with a more magnificent background from the greenery that is present.

You can also find morels in the spring. Last spring I found some between the sidewalk and street in a new little housing development near my house!

That's very depressing that I had to miss the opportunity to photograph some beautiful mushrooms, I found one of those yellow/orange amanitas in washington but my buddy picked it and put it in a box and threw it in my trunk while i was getting the fucking camera out. It rotted in there.

I'll probably be sticking to California. Should I go during March or April? When would the most variety be do you think?

I'd go for April, you should be able to catch the beginning of the morel season then. Check out this map...
