What is the key to transformation

I know there are some very smart people running around here, and i imagine alot of you have been where i am. In a rut. It seems that it takes something to piss me off to get me moving, and well, it shouldn't be this way.
Everytime something ticks me off, i use it as motivation, whether it's in the weight room or what not. But it really shouldn't have to be this way. It shouldn't have to take someone ticking me off by saying this or that to get me motivated to do something.
With all the wisdom around this place, I know i can pick up a peice of advice that I can use.
For the people(s) that have been through this, did you find something that, per say, kept you on task day in and day out?
I figure it's worth asking because i see people come in these forums everyday needing something like this. So it's not just for my good, but for the betterment of mankind in the way i see it.

For each person it's different and time is usually a really big factor. Just give it another 30 years or so.

Well first of all I don't think that it "should" or "shouldn't" be this way. You respond to life the way you do now probably because this is what you need right now. Of course this doesn't stop you from seeing that there might be better and more efficient ways in which you could shift your experiences and understanding and therefore produce that change, but thinking that you should (as in necessarily) do it one way over another is what's keeping you standing. Your understanding might be ahead of your own rhythm and it means that you need more time to adjust to it. Why force yourself into anything? in my experience, this has never worked.

Well, like you, there were/are lots of times when something has to happen in order to determine me. And there are other times, in which I simply remember myself that there's nothing to keep me waiting for that moment when something will, sooner or later, inevitably happen in order to make me move on, so I might as well take the required action right away.

You say "force yourself to do something". Thats just another way of saying "willing yourself to do something" which comes off highly different doesn't it ?

No. Willing yourself to do something would imply that you are fully decided and able to take action, as opposed to forcing yourself into something (which implies that you're not totally ready to do it).
