I read a study about the contagiousness of yawning this year some time. The study suggested there was a strong link between how quick and consistently a person will "catch" the yawn, and how empathetic they where!
Also, anyone ever notice simialar yawning on SSRI's?
Ive taken a few random SSRI's and I always get that same tense neck yawney feeling. The last time I took an SSRI I thought it was a methadone but once the effects came on and I started getting all yawney I called SSRI.

Yeah, I tend to yawn a lot too.
One time it felt like the yawn was so huge that I was stretching my mouth really wide. Felt like I could have fit a softball in my mouth.

I definitely tend to have strange breathing sensations on mushrooms. I do yawn a lot, but i also feel sudden urges to take a huge breath, and it's as though my lungs do so involuntarily. It's almost as though the mushrooms are telling you to "breath damnit!" Myk

I didn't notice that I yawn more when tripping, but I did notice that yawning on Shrooms is fucking incredible. It's as if I swallowed my whole head every time.

I yawn a lot when I eat mushies to... useually the more body load, the more I yawn. Someone mentioned they don't get the yawns on LSD.. I don't either, I attribute this to lack of body load.
When coming up on mushrooms I get indecicive. Sometimes I'm not sure whether I want to sit or stand, go for a walk, or lay down, play the drums or look at pictures.. etc etc.. This phase of indecision is when I find myself yawning the most. I never experience this phase while on LSD.

Seems like I heard some where that yawning represents a shift in consciousness, which is why people yawn before they go to bed and when they wake up. I have no idea if this is true or not.

I get it ("it" being the cluster yawns when not tired) coming up, most often when I'm not distracted by anything else. I also get it before going to a social gathering I may be anxious about. I told a friend who said he's read it happens when your brain is preparing for strenuous activity.
Wasn't sure, found this though. Seems to support that idea.

Yawning isn't about oxygen as much as the body pulling in more Pran/Chi/Shakti. The mushroom yawns must have something to do with pulling in more Chi to fuel the trip.
Anyone who has experimented with Pranayama while tripping or even stoned knows this stuff is for real.

didnt read whole thread but afaik when you yawn, your body needs an extra boost of oxygen and as far as my chemistry knowledge is, psilocybin requiers oxygen to get work by the body

Haha ya I have probably yawned like 4 or 5 times its really annoying.
It gets to the point on shrooms when it actually hurts my brain/temples to yawn and my eyes are totally watery.

kotik said: yup, just part of the whole process. I was under the impression that i was because your brain is trying to get more oxygen, which I guess is triggered by the shrooms somehow?
precisely.
the body is craving oxygen as it has been poisoned, hence all the sweating, snot and peeing like the proverbial racehorse. (libs always)
I usually excrete a fair bit from my tear ducts too.
It's always happened right from my first trip, close to twenty years later i still ooze.
everyone should ooze.

What are you poisoning your body with? Or did you mean that it's craving oxygen as if it were being poisoned? Maybe I just read it wrong.
