I always make sure to only waste cold water, so I don't use any electricity that I pay for.

me and my family get our water from a well we made. our water usage depends on the rain patterns, we don't pay for shit. besides i only brush for like thirty seconds, so i am saving the planet by not wasting water and raping my teeth by a shitty brush job. i am so pleased with myself. oh and i swallow the toothpaste too. and i collect my own pee. i love the rainforests.

What the fuck have you done with your life besides sit on the internet and cry about animal rights and how much harm people are doing to the environment?
Oh, so you're a dropout. That explains a little bit.
I don't even have to say anything. It's clear by what you said above that you rate your life achievement and personal character by materialistic means. I'm sorry you haven't realized yet that life is worth more.

The next war will be waged over WATER, not oil, according to Kofi Annan. The world bank predicts water shortages in the future and it's occurring as we speak across the globe. Unlike oil, water cannot be substituted with alternate means. Water is water.
Do the research yourself. I'm not doing it for you. I know the truth for myself and that's all I need. Google is there. Type in world water shortage and see what comes up. It's everywhere: It is a fact that water is essentially the next oil.

I've heard that a million times. I have to say I just don't see it happening. Even if all the freshwater is rendered useless (how could that happen?), desalinization is not going to be too impractical or expensive to anyone who wants potable water.

Fact? No. No more than Radiohead are the next Beatles. It's conjecture, and doesn't really mean anything anyway.
In any case, water is renewable; oil is finite, at least for as long as humans will exist.
Still, there's no reason to keep the water running while you brush your teeth.

You don't see it happening? That's because you're in a sheltered rich country.
It's happening all across the globe. It's either real war or it's economic water in rich countries (water industry is buying every single water right it possibly can at the moment in anticipation of water running out from fresh sources).
Do you think it'll be cheap and practical to TRUCK WATER or send it by train ACROSS THE COUNTRY? No. Hell fucking no. It'll be expensive and it'll be a pain in the ass.
Just imagine, when the aquifers run out, how many trucks and transportation it'll take to ship water after being desalinated.
Or, imagine all the piping needed to be done from the coasts to the center of america for water. Not cheap.
Don't forget, the great lakes only hold 20% of the world's freshwater. And don't forget, 3% of all water on is earth freshwater.
That's not much.

but what about the extra effort it takes to turn the faucet a few extra times!? i can't be expending that much energy!! i'm simply above it.

seriously though, it just doesn't make any sense to leave the water running full blast while shaving/brushing teeth. first 3 years of college i lived in a dorm. last year, there wasa pair of fratty, chubster, douchebag assholes living in the dorm. they alienated themselves from everyone and were, in general, chock full of douchbaggery. i remember a specific incidence when i happened to witness one of them shaving. dude left the water running FULL blast for like 5 minutes straight. like a fire hose in the sink. i was dumbfounded. what the hell is the point of that? is he really that lazy, that he can't turn it off and on as needed? i just don't understand.

If you are not actively conscious about limiting the amount of water you frivolously use, you're a waster of water.

I'm accusing you of being a waster of water if you do not consciously limit the water you waste. Example: If you don't turn off the water while brushing your teeth, you're a waster of water. I don't know if you consciously limit the amount of water you waste or not, so I'm not necessarily accusing you just yet. Understand?

I'm not going to sit here and argue with some people who are worried about water shortages.
http://www.edwardsaquifer.net/charts.html
I guess it's rather nice, you know being stupid and immature and all. Better than being crazy and worrying about things like 3.00 a gallon water, and the amount of pollution caused by methane gas released by cows asses.

You have to be so complicated, don't you?
I said in my first post that I don't turn off the water. In fact it was in the first line. It was the first line...the whole thing. You obviously read it, because I got a reply right back from you saying "That does not justify wasting water."
You seem (to me) to be backtracking on the things you're saying. You'll say something, then say you didn't say it, and then say it again as if it were the first time you said it. That has all the hallmarks of a person who doesn't know what they are arguing about in the first place. Further, I get the picture that you feel like a cornered animal...some of your posts are tinged with that certain something.
Don't shoot me...I'm just the messenger.
