Greetings everyone.
Some of you may recognise me from mycotopia. I thought i would check out this place too and extend my knowledge as well as pass it on to others over here. I thought a lot about what i should include in my first post. I finally decided on my latest grow of LGFCYs. Ive tried growing pans 3 times before, unsuccesfully, only once did i get a very small pin. So after receiving a heavy panelous tropicalis print, i had high hopes of succes. Multispore was used to inoculate my own "cakeS" which consist of 2.5 parts verm, 1 part horse manure, and 1 part whole brown rice. All is brought to field capacity and PC-s for the regular 1.5 hours and 15 psi. Once jars were colonised, they were spawned to pasturised horsemanure/straw with a bit of aditional verm, for water retention. Spawnrun was extremly fast, first i though i got some contamination since only 48 hours after spawning it seemed 100% colonised. I then cased with coir/verm 70/30% misted gently and moved strait to fc. Casing had protruding mycelium after 12 hours, and pins were spotted about 6 days after casing. Ive had two trays now, both are getting ready for second and third flush now.

nice, the shrooms in the last pic is alot smaller than a thought they would be, but i have heard pans are a damn lot harder to grow, and there more potent

Well these dont really get all that much bigger. They are a bit more of a challenge to grow than cubes, and they say the trip is a lot different, these little one pack a punch.[image] [/ur[image] [/image][image] [/image]l][/image]

The look so different to cubes!! never seen them before, i may give some pans a shot once i have a go at casing.

Thanks man,
I still have to get used to this place, its a bit different On a side note, iam trying to clone one of these nice clusters, i tried making some plates again, no luck, like always i got bacterial contamination after a day on all plates. Dunno about the lc-s yet ill check on them today. I guess ill have to leave agar work for when i finnaly have the flowhood ready.

Thats unlucky, agar should be able to be done sucessfully in a clean glovebox, make sure you are sterilising all your tools with an alcohol lamp.
Contamination on agar isnt a complete failure, u can clean up agar by doing transfers of myc to new agar until u leave the contam behind, but since u have bacteria that early then u will probably have to start over.
When u took a tissua sample, did u split the fruit open and take a scraping from the middle??

Try making some water agar for cloning. In other words, just use 20 grams of agar-agar and 1/2 liter of water, with no nutrients. This way, you'll get a bit of growth from the fungi that you can then transfer to MEA, but it won't feed the bacteria during the time your clone is starting to grow. RR

Well ive got the procedure down, its the Gb thats not completly airtight hence the contams. I should have gone with antibiotic agar again but for some reason i didnt. In anycase ill put agar work on hold untill i get me HEPA and build the flowhood.

Now thats somthing i havnt thought of yet, thanx ma. How about cardboard cloning, how does that work with pans?

I'm no fan of cardboard cloning except for outdoor grown wood lovers. At some point you'll still have to transfer from unsterile cardboard to agar to clean up the culture before inoculating your grains. I'd suggest simply starting with agar. Gentmycin sulphate is autoclavable if you need a good antibiotic.
Pans are relatively easy to grow. They like a thin manure substrate, either steer or horse, with a thin casing layer of peat/verm. Try to keep the substrate to 1 1/2" thickness, and the casing layer to 1/4" thick. Fruit at 80F in as close to 100% humidity as you can. Good luck! RR
