We first told you about the Weed and Seed program last month. It's federal funding used to weed out drugs and crime, and "seed" a neighborhood with programs that help the community. In this case, neighborhood kids get free workouts. But the extra kids coming leaves less room for paying customers. That's where the seed money helped.
The Topeka Police Department has pulled funding for the Midtown Fitness Club and the owner blames it on his former drug addiction. He says he's still paying for crimes but says it's the kids who are losing out.
Midtown fitness owner Kirk Purcell says getting his business going has been tough. But he says it was nothing compared to beating his addiction to drugs.
"Just trying to stay high and I had no reason to live. This gives me a reason to live," Purcell said.
What was Purcell's addiction?
"It was marijauna, then advanced to pills. then LSD and then heroin and cocaine and the whole gamut," Purcell said.
But he says losing Weed and Seed money to get kids off the street and back into the gym has been devastating.
"To punish me for something that I have mastered, that I've gotten beyond, punish me now?" he said.
Anthony Barber works out with his two kids at Midtown Fitness. He's aware of Purcell's past. We asked Barber if he had any problem with him working out with your kids.
"Not at all." Barber said.
Purcell says the $2,300 he received was only enough to keep the program going for a couple of months. It helped some kids like Chris Munez, who lost twenty pounds since signing up in January.
What Munez be doing if he wasn't working out?
"Sitting on the couch, playing my video game," answered Munez.
Purcell says his gym was approached for the Weed and Seed program when Safe Streets was in charge. He told them about his former addiction to drugs.
But once the police took over the program, funding was cut. Now Purcell is looking for help to keep the program going.
"Who better to related to these kids, than somebody who has stumbled and fallen and gotten up again and tried to be a success," Purcell said.
Chief Ron Miller said that, after a background check, Purcell did not meet the criteria of the Weed and Seed contractors.
Purcell says he won't turn any kids away, but is looking for money for the gym's nutrition program.

Maybe Chris Munez should stop being a fatass and get a bike. I smoke pot and am not doomed to a life of obese mediocrity. Go figure!

BLACK BOTTOM, A WEED AND SEED COMMUNITY
-------------------- We will also report to the NAACP and to Al Sharpton's entourage, how the Shroomery administrators allows their mods and members to be balatantly allowed the use of the 'N' word.

Did anyone take notice to this at all?
What was Purcell's addiction?
"It was marijuana, then advanced to pills. then LSD and then heroin and cocaine and the whole gamut," Purcell said.
Since when do people go from Cannabis to Prescription Pills to LSD to Heroin?
I can see Cannabis to LSD. I can even see Cocaine to Heroine. However, I just don't see them all in the same category, rarely if ever. What about "the whole gamut" what else do you do after you start doing Heroin?
It seems like the words are a bit misconstrued, seems like an entirely false story in itself. Any person with common sense could notice this, especially people who take drugs.
Coke heads are thinking, LSD? Hippies are thinking, Heroine? Two opposite ends of the spectrum. Just another attempt for the media to misguide and mislead already uneducated people.
