smoking contributing to gum disease?
    #7628451 - 11/12/07 11:20 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

hey all...

a couple months ago my dentist noticed some gum disease in my mouth. he told me to start brushing and flossing like I should be and it'd go away.

now, it's not gone away, it's a whole lot worse. I know I need to go back to the dentist or something, but my question is:

I smoke a couple puffs of ganja every night and a black & mild cigar maybe once every week.
Is this enough smoking to contribute to gum disease? I didn't think that amount was nearly enough for me to have noticable negative smoking effects.

I'm not an expert, so I am not sure. But logically I think it might be possible. If you ever hold smoke in your mouth it might be possible. But if its just in the lungs, and out. I don't see how it would cause gum disease.

Well, brushing your teeth help.
Or maybe some listerine twice a day? What about that.

Yes, I brush after almost every meal now, and floss every day too.

I thought about getting Listerine, but I don't like all the unnatural stuff it has in there, so I just bought some Tom's of Maine all-natural mouthwash, it has witch hazel and aloe vera, so hopefully that will help.

I dunno, i can stop smoking the weekly cigar easily enough, but I love my herb so! Does anyone think it could be contributing to it? Like I said, I smoke usually less than a bowl each night.

well its not made to swallow dude, so who the fuck cares? use listerine...it will help. Natural does not = good. Many natural things kill humans. Man made things are not all that bad. Listerine works, if you want to fight off that nasty shit...stop smoking, and start using listerine after each time you brush.

It's probably fluoride. Try brushing with baking soda and peroxide.

Do some internet digging on fluoride.

i brush with fluoride free toothpaste (well aware about fluoride), but that doesn't leave out the fluoride found in my water (damn brita filters don't filter it out)

and aDoS, things get absorbed through your mouth without swallowing them. I have a problem putting things with artificial colors and sodium benzoate into my body. And also, the use of aloe vera in treating gum disease is pretty well documented.
