My Drying Chamber (pics)

I made this from a largish tupperware box with a lid, a computer fan hooked up to an old 12 volt power supply, and a grill
I drilled a hole in the lid the size of a computer fan. I then cut 4 bits of wood to make a square around the hole, a little bigger than the computer fan, and glued and screwed them in place.
Top of lid

Bottom of lid

The computer fan sits inside the wooden square and blows air into the chamber.

I cut the grill to size so it would fit tightly about half way down the box.

Will this work? Should I drill holes around the sides at the bottom of the box to let air out or will it be ok?

If i were you I'd just put the mushrooms on a fan for a day or so then put desiccant under that grill and just lay the mushrooms on the grill until they are cracker dry.

yeah that will work fine but i agree with bait...adding some desiccant at the bottom will make sure they are bone dry and store well.

Yeah I would but I dont have a big fan, just a computer fan. This is the cheapest and most descrete method I could come up with. I plan on using desiccant after they are fan dried.

how do you connect the pc fan to a power source?? or do you have it plugged into your actual motherboard?

I use a small transformer from a old cell phone charger to power a home made magnetic stirer. (it uses a computer fan)

Ah I see you have holes in the bottom I was considering putting holes in. Does it make much difference?
For the PC fan guy: I checked the voltage and ampage needed to run the fan (12v and .2amps I think it was) and I have loads of old power supllies lying around, so i just found one to match it. Cut the adapter off the power supply and connect it to the wires on the fan.
Thanks for the replies guys.

The holes in the bottom ensures that there is a steady fresh air flow and also that no humid air is blown through the fan, shortening its lifetime.
