Why would overlay be setting in if the rest has barely even finished colonizing?

lol what a dumb noob i am. thanks
Still confused though. THought you were supposed to wait until 100% colonized substrate until fruiting - but the one in this thread is like...greyish...with white here and there...are u guys saying to go ahead with fruiting very soon because the substrate is apparently to wet? like, normally, would you recommend waiting until the surface is thick white before casing? what is the ideal standard in terms of substrate colonization before casing?

You are worrying way, way too much.
Are those "stronger looking" spots the places where you left spawn on the surface, or the places where colonization initially began? You're going to be fine. If you have any myc piss on the surface when you birth, maybe soak that and some of the moisture up. Case in a couple of days, and patch a few more after that. The biggest threat here is uneven pin-setting.
Drink a beer.

No spawn was on the surface. Assuming they just colonized faster, I guess?
Was worried about overlay - but basically - overlay can really only generally happen on the CASING, right?
So to prevent overlay you fruit as soon as you see myc evenly poking up through the casing layer (rather than way for the casing layer to become nearly fully colonized, because overlay will set in by the time fruiting happens) - right?
Going to have a red stripe right now actually. Thanks for putting up with the dumb noobisms like myself.

More Links.
Understanding Overlay. Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy. Overlay?
Now, I hope you've already read the first two... Overlay as a real problem is pretty rare from what I've found, and caused by neglect, something I don't think you have to worry about.
Case. Incubate 3 days. Patch. Mist. Toss in FC. Wait. Mist. Wait.
Harvest.
