How do you check on colonization w/o causing fruiting to happen?

From what I gather, any light at all during colonization is bad and can trigger pinning, even if CO2 levels are very high.

Well, a cell phone glow or a lighter has been used. is this ok? How else can you check without initiating fruiting? How sensitive to light is the mycelium during colonization in terms of what I'm talking about, in your experience?

what method are you using? if bulk substrate you shouldn't peek for at least a few days, but if you do just make it quick. i've done so myself and had no problems. it takes more than just a little light to initiate pinning.

A little light won't trigger pinning, especially if it's still colonizing. 100% darkness isn't necessary.

completely wrong.
light has zero effect on colonizing substrates, unless they're
contaminated or fully colonized.
I've colonized thousands of bags and jars in normal everyday
light, monotubs too. don't worry about light one bit.

Correct. Light has little effect on colonizing mycelium. Light is a secondary pinning trigger, once full colonization has been reached.

Yeah. That's what I thought, then I started reading about keeping colonizations in dark...which most likely helps, given that mycelium did not evolve to be exposed to bright light during colonization..but yeah..thanks for confirming that. Feeling safer now.
