i am bout to get paid tommarrow so time to try to afford a PC.
I got this sweet new program that actually snipes auctions for you (Auction Auto-Bidder) so I believe I am gonna finally win a pressure cooker. I am looking at a few diffrent models but none ever list the psi rating. Are most pressure cookers 15 psi?
I mean or are like 6qts usally 10 psi and 8qt is usally 15 psi?
Or how does it work? What size should i look for? They have pressure cookers that have handles like a pot or big tall ones that are called canners.
What ones do you use or do you like?
Thanks guys, Kat

all american pressure cookers the cadillac of pressure cookers. metal to metal seal...no gasket to wear out they also make pressure sterilizers- i think those are electric though not stove top. i think at least one of the vendors here ( mycopath) sells them on their website.

As far as I know, 15 psi is the normal pressure for most if not all pressure cookers. You don't need a heavy duty one nor a psi gauge as you can tell the pressure is at ~15psi when the little thing on top starts to rattle, all you have to do then is keep the flame to the lowest setting where it keeps the thing rattling.
Everyone will have their own opinion regarding what's best and what features a PC should have, I found an 8qt one good enough for 8 pint jars at a time.
I paid $45 for mine.

Sounds good, I have that same one. It's real easy to use, it comes with a rack put the jars on top of so they don't touch the bottom of the cooker, you simply fill the water up to the rack. Then put the jars in there and close the lid. Put the flame on high for 10 mins and you'll see the air vent actually pop up and lock. That means the pressure inside has reached around 10 psi and 5 mins after that the pressure regulator on top will start to release steam and rattle (~15 psi), that's when you turn the flame down to where it's low but keeps the regulator rattling.
It takes around 5 hours (for 8 jars) for it to cool down to room temp after you turn off the flame and around 3 hours for 4 jars.

cool.
Ok another question, when you use it you just place it on any stove? Could I hypothetically use one of those plug in one burner stoves to use it? I live in a place with no stove so it would be convienent for me to get the plug in stove on many levels, just for us cooking food and whatnot.

Yea you can use any kind of stove, however in the manual it says some stoves might not be hot enough if the pressure regulator doesn't rattle, it's unlikely but if that's the case, then instead of sterilizing for 60 minutes, do it for 90 mins at a lower psi. As long as the air vent thing on the side locks, you know you have ~10psi pressure.
