Outdoor beds

I am starting a bed outside here in Oregon using local strains .Is it possible to grow more than one strain in the same general vicinity or will they compete for space and kill each other off?

Strains don't compete with each other, or kill each other off. It's also the wrong time of year to start an outdoor patch of PNW mushrooms. Springtime is when you'll want to spawn outdoor beds.

No, it's about three months too early. Spawn outdoor woodchip beds in the spring after last frost. I start my grains in December, and use them to inoculate sawdust/woodchip bags in January. Give the sawdust/woodchip bags two months to colonize fully, and then use them to spawn to moistened woodchips in an outdoor bed in March. Cover with an inch of topsoil, and a bit of straw or cardboard to protect against any late freezes.

I have been reading a few books lately on shrooms and was thinking of having my beds meander under a Daphne bush ,a Peony bush and then moving under some ornamental grasses which are all in place. The grasses offer filtered shade. All these plants are next to an East wall. Will the grasses allow enough shade to protect my bed? I was thinking of a couple beds the other location is next to a Southern fence covered in Passionflower vines. This is very shady. Would these long 10-12foot beds work out at 18" wide? Thanks
