cakes fruiting in jar
    #7623715 - 11/11/07 09:36 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Hi,

I ignored some BRF jars too long (concentrating on casings) and now they're fruiting while still in the jar. Oops! Not just a few small pins, but many smooshed tiny mushies a few inches long.

So....I was going to dunk & roll these, do I pluck the fruits off or just leave em? If I should remove them and they look ok, can I eat them?

Thanks!

Defenitally clean them off, or they will rot.

try leaving them. If they dont plump up in 24 hours then pick them off. They do not all rot. Dunk and roll it

I mean if you want to dunk and roll it, clean it off before you do so.

Cool, I'll try leaving them and see if they continue growing, if not then pick, dunk & roll. These are a forgotten about side project so I can experiment a bit and not be upset if it doesn't work out.

Thanks again!

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

You don't need to pick them off before dunking. If they abort later, pick them, but it's rare for fruits to abort from an overnight soak.

what you've been told is ingnorance, and RR is correct.

don't pick them, dunk them, then place in chamber, 48 hours later you'll be thanking RR for the advice.
