Uh oh...maybe

First let me thank the active members of this community. It is pretty rare to see people sharing, and learning so actively and helping each other out so much. The wealth of scientific and experience based knowledge on this forum is unmatched. Case and point; my monkey just successfully, from start to finish, produced, according to him, some very delicious and enjoyable mushrooms using a simple PF cake method. Well as it sometimes goes with monkeys he has taken the next step up to casing. Start to finish here is what he told me he did.
Fully colonize 3 jar pint jars. (B+)
Prepared and sterilized a germination terrarium bought at a local hydroponics shop. (Basically a 1'6''x 10''x 4'' plastic tray with a dome lid that fits on top and two little adjustable air holes in the top)
Covered the bottom with moist verm (3/4')
Sliced and crumbled cakes to cover the verm (2'')
Covered with Miracle Grow Moisture Control (1/2'')
Moistened MGMC liberally with a fine mist spray bottle
3 days later the fluffy white stuff my monkey is so fond of appeared oddly dispersed he patched and waited.
My monkey would now estimate that 15-20% of the MGMC has my mycelium on it and it seems fairly light and wispy in places. No cobweb mold so far.
My monkey is now stuck. He is unsure if he as made some grievous error thus far, or what to do next. It seems to my monkey that some let the surface get completely covered then fruit and some would be moving the casing to fruit by now.
I have been very proud of my monkey for not posting any questions thus far despite the fact that this hobby has been going on for 2 months now in some form or another. He credits you guys. In any case if someone who is experience with MGMC casing or any other kinds, which I know most you are, please give the little guy the solid advice he needs to complete this casing successfully.
Thanks again for all your help.

Sounds like your monkey's doing well with his hobby. If I were him I'd sprinkle some more casing over the thickest white spots, incubate for a few more days and then fruit the casing. "Patching" will help ensure a more even pin set. Good luck! --

After you crumbled your cakes, did you allow them to sit in the dark for a few days before you added the MGMC layer? Also, did you put into FC right after you added the casing layer? Is there a reason you put wet verm on the bottom of the tray?

Update: I moved it to the fruiting chamber, lowered temp to 75 F, added a high spectrum grow light at a safe distance, and am periodically doing air exchange. I did not patch any more. If there is anything else I need to do other than maintain this routine to make big beautiful fruit appear please advise.
No they did not sit they went straight from jar to cutting board to on top of the verm.
No that dome a described above is air tight, I gave no light, and continued to heat the casing at 77-80 F.
I read a few techs that suggested this I assume for added moisture
I guess I would just like to know what to expect next. Will the surface become completely covered? Will the mushrooms come up from under the MGMC like some pics I have seen or will it be more like a cake?

mushrooms only grown when you're not looking at them
Do a search of pics for primordia or hyphal knots. Then you will know what to expect next.
You may want to look at some pics of overlay while you're at it.

Nice looks like your well researched.
Some people patch the first spots of myc with new casing, to let the rest catch up. Some people dont. Research try both and see for yourself.
What kind of light are you using? I hope grow light doesnt mean like "plant" grow light.

Yes I believe it is originally intended for hydroponic plant growth, the mushrooms grow in tubs in a dim basement with 12 foot ceilings and it is attached to the ceiling just a high spectrum bulb and a directional lid. Supposed to emulate sunlight. I am aware this is not necessary but if it is harmful please let me know. Thanks for the post
Edit: Its an 150 watt full daylight spectrum bulb hung at approx. 8 feet over the casing.
