Would this be good for casing?
    #7621768 - 11/11/07 12:01 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Well I was going to make my own casing mix when I ran across this bag of stuff I happen to have laying around for another hobby. I read the ingredients and it sounded reasonable to me, can anyone think of a reason this stuff wouldn't work?

Ingredients: Sphaghnum peat, horticultural vermiculite, perlite, wetting agent and lime for ph balance.

No nutrients or anything, so all I should have to do is hydrate and pasteurize?

That's sounds like a very viable recipe
Use it.. just sterilize it well  I like to add more Vermiculite to my casings so it is more of a 60/40 65/35 mix.. The best results I ever had were in more verm than peat.

Yeah after sifting through it I'm definitely going to add more Vermiculite.

So casings get sterilized, not pasteurized?
