Soaked for 12 hours, placed in strainer and covered w/ saran wrap for another 9 hours (had to sleep) then laid the seed out on trashbags to dry for another 3 or so hours and noticed a lot of seeds jusssst about starting to sent a root out.
Threw em in the PCer pronto, but am wondering if this is normal to happen, how bad it is to happen, and how to prevent this from happening.
Keep in mind, simmering is not really desirable in this case. Would just like to soak and that's it.
It was prolly a bad move to let it sit in the strainer, it should have been strained and gone directly to being dried out before jarring. Other than that, without simmering, not sure how to prevent that.

you let it dry for too long...way too long... Alse, IME, simmering is the most important step, as it forces the seeds to absorb as much water as possible.
I would start a new batch if I were you...make sure you follow the tek to the T next time.

I have a friend who grows many different exotics, and his jars often have some germinated seeds in them. He soaks his for ~20 (after dark til the next afternoon) hours in a pillow case and a bucket, occasionally pouring the water out for fresh. Then he take the pillow case and pushes all the seed out into it til its averages and inch thick, and he folds the edge under. Then he sprays it with the hose really good for about 2-3 minutes, then leaves it to sit for an hour. He always does this under good shade if it is hot or when the temp out is under 80. Or he does in a bathtub. Then he loads his jars and pc's them. I think the guy has lost maybe four quarts to infection/stall this year, all pan cyan jars too, and the rest of his cyans had probems taking hold from a g2g for some reason.

Eh, just gonna give this one a go.
Simmered & soaked last time and it was way too wet.
Thing is, it was in the strainer, covered, so it didn't dry out or anything. It was still wet enough to stick to the spoon.
Only problem is that the extra lag time probably encouraged the seeds to sprout.

I really don't think it matters about the sprouts, mycellium eats hay, poop, cardboard, seeds with the hull, aluminum foil on occasion; I am sure it can handle some good, low density, high fiber little snackies. Plus, you know, that means the seed has reached maximum absorption too, and with that little sponge on there it may hold a little more. Perhaps we should try letting some partially germinate and let it dry a good bit after doing so?

It really should be fine, probabably. Now the only thing left to wonder is....why is one of the jars making noise after taking it out of the PCer? Pressure was equilibrated, although the pot was sure still hot. Weird.

When you rinse the debris out of the grains before the soak, be sure to use hot tap water. In addition, begin the soak with hot tap water. If your water is hot enough, it will ruin the seeds, preventing germination. RR

K, definitely didn't do it with hot water.
