The Oregon Trail
    #7620742 - 11/11/07 12:17 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Back in the old days, people would pack up their families and head to Oregon in a damn horse-pulled wagon. At like 4 miles per-hour. It is ubsurd..

What if they were from New York, and had a dream that Oregon was the place to be. It must have taken them Months to get there, almost a full year. They would be dieing from diseases and starvation just to go to the wonderful place of Oregon.

I have gone cross the entire country before by interstate, and it is damn brutal after several days. What the hell were those people thinking? To actually bring their children on such a journey must take a lot of, what is the word?

balls?

it sounds absurd now, but honestly back then, if you were barely getting by and you heard that land was there for the taking, all you had to do was get there, and you are told all sorts of great things, would you not make the trip in the attempt to better the lives of your family? not knowing just how tough it would really be?

I was tripping with my buddy and his girlgriend one time and all this girl was tripping so hard all she talked about was riding in a wagon on the oregon trail. It got pretty annoying after a while haha

Were they claiming there was free land to be had in Oregon?

Something must have drove the trail, and it certainly wasn't gold.

im pretty sure that they were told that it was frontier land and that it was either incredibly cheap, or free.

i mean hell. if there was still frontier land left that needed colonizing.... i would go. get away from all of this shit? hell yes.

I must admit, I have been to almost every state in the US and Oregon fits me the nicest. Why was that trail blazed though? Oregon is still mostly unpopulated other than a few cities that grew small. Why wasn't it the California trail, or the Washington trail, because both of those states are very populated..

How did those crazy bastards get through the mountains with just a wagon and a horse?

the oregon trail itself
is way ballsy
travleing across the columbia river gorge you can retrace the trail. some big ass mountais and damn steep terrain up that way. near inpassible.

kudos to pioneers

Getting to Oregon in the end and having to go down the river was more intense than peaking on acid.

I remember playing that on a text based mac, then the next greatest thing was three or four versions later when you could actually shoot at things when going hunting.
