alright, i know that for some odd reason salvia sustained genetic damage and no longer produces seeds, which is why we all trade cuttings. what i want to know is, it still grows wild in south america RIGHT? so why hasnt anyone gone down and found a viable source of seeds????

some say its a natural hybrid, and that is why it doesnt set seed readily... even in its natural environment...
but i dont think anyone knows for sure...

Wrong.
In the wild (in Mexico - north america), Salvia multiplies itself by falling and rooting itself around. It´s probably doing this for so long that it totally lost the hability or the need to produce viable seeds.
But some say it is possible, when you pollinate your plants, to get a few seeds if you work on it.

hmmm...... so it has evolved to the point that instead of creating seeds it just drops broken off cuttings and they root and flourish with no problems?? thats crazy....

i wonder how in the hell a plant came to the conclusion that it didnt need to create seeds anymore because it was spreading enough through pieces falling off......
so basically every salvia alive today is a clone then correct?

no, not one clone.
A few clones is probably true though. It isn't impossible to get it to set seeds, just hard, and not all seeds are sterile, just most of them. Daniel Siebert has grown many new individuals from seeds. Here is a pictorial on how to pollinate salvia: http://members.cox.net/sageseeds/ Not all the seeds will be viable, but some will...

For the record; I don't believe in the hybrid theory. It seems more likely to me that the salvia divinorum species has been decimated at some point. When a population is really small mutations become more pronounced(as recessive genes tend to show more often). This can often lead to infertility.
