SE portland find [Re: thetonebone72]
    #7617315 - 11/10/07 12:17 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

after 2 years of fruitless searching, i stumbled across a p.cyan patch here in SE portland nearly 3 weeks ago. i've harvested nearly 20g dry of very small fruits since. hey, that's the best i can do here, for now. now there are many pins and it's raining... exciting! i'm spawning the butts to cardboard hoping to start new patches where i can take good care of them. i'm also having dark thoughts of transferring large tracts of this mycelium one dark night as soon as the season's past, as it seems nearly spent and it's not getting much love where it is. plus i have already twice been confronted by busy neighbors wondering with concern if they could help me find something i was looking for? i told them, blushing, that i was looking for a discrete spot to relieve myself, and sorry, etc.

anyway this is just to confirm that it IS out there but yeah, it took me 2 years of obsessive landscape scanning to find it. thanks to the forum for the indispensable photos, habitat and ID tips. it was an unforgettable thrill to see that first cluster of caps and run through the checklist and... blue! these were the first actives i'd ever seen, knowingly. i dutifully did a spore print just to be sure, but i already knew.

i got a couple yards of mixed elm and oak chips when i saw a tree service chopping up same and asked if they had a dump site worked out? they were happy to deliver. that will be good substrate, i hope.

isnt that wierd. why are shroom patches seem to be so abundant near police stations? its funny because a few years back(when this one park was nice and cyan substrate filed with woodchips) there was this huge tree directly across from the cop shop and cyanescens would grow under this tree like crazy litterally 40 some yards away from the station. all a cop would have to do is flip open his blinds and he would see shroom pickers. id be picking them there and turn my back every two minutes to make sure no po's were looking out their windows
good times
damn you jaymes where are finding these patches man!

Went for a walk today, came across a ton of caps, this one stood out. Saw a half dozn. or so of them spread out through the area i was in. All standing alone. Thought they looked cool, so i brought the most mature one home, the others where just so full of color and so much life yet to be had that i couldn't pick them. Had to let them do there thing, but any way, here it is! Not a clue what it is, but it was worth taking pictures of. I may go back down there in a bit, this time take the camera.
Enjoy!!

Residential neighborhoods are where it's at. I just around for a little bit, there's a good chance someone has a huge garden with wood chips. I've only been able to pick close to 3 ounces of what seems like 6+, it's a shame what the weather has done to the patches, half of them aren't producing pins as I saw today.

I checked my patches and here's the results:

Cyans:

Stuntzii:

If anyone remembers this was a small patch I found last year. Only produced maybe 20 mushrooms all season. I counted over 60 pins at the patch.

Happy Hunting!!

Went for a walk again today, 4 different locations today. Still no cyans, but all is good. In good time i guess. Came home with two more Amanitas though..
Did take the camera today. Took a couple shots of things i have never seen before that caught my eye.
Hope you enjoy.

This guy was awesome, i was in a patch of wood chips, kicking leaves around, and this ol boy said hi! Major viscid going on, and stipe was fibroid, and thick, with major hue's of red pigment just coating my fingers, cap two, but man, if that had been blue, i so wish i new more.. Time, i know..

This was my bounty for the day, Seems too be an abundance of Aminitas where i have been as of late. They make good back up, will dry them, crush and jar for latter days..

We need some rain to get the second flush underway, patches from the first aren't looking so hot anymore.
