ID help please- maybe cyans, but little/no blue.

I found a large clustering patch of these growing in the (heavily woodchip-mulched) garden of a friend's house near Portland. Some of them seem to have dropped spores, and they look chocolate brown- I'm in the process of getting an actual spore print right now. The stems seem a little dried out and very slightly woody. Except for (*maybe*) a couple of traces, they aren't bruising blue.

What do you think? Are these likely cyans? Or obviously anything else?

Yeah, those are cyans. Take that stuff that's stuck to the bottom of the stem and put it in-between the layers of some water-soaked cardboard. Leave the cardboard outside and keep it somewhat damp. When it snows, just let the snow cover the cardboard. In the summer sprinkle some water over the cardboard and add alder or pine mulch (after the mycelium starts going really well). You'll have your own little patch.

I see staining at the margin.
Not all will bruise heavily (same as in other blue staining psilocybes), nor is it an indication of potency.

A little more info:
-the mature mushrooms were 3-4" high, caps 1-2" across -stems are fibrous and hollow at the center- a 1/8-1/4" thick stem has a 1mm hollow area. -bruising is a little uneven- mostly the stems get a little darker, in a couple spots they might be getting darker and more towards the bluish end of the spectrum. Very hard to tell. -no (or extremely slight) scent

Wow, thanks guys. The patch was pretty damn sexy- about 8 feet of pretty dense clusters. The entire property is heavily mulched with wood chips, and we found one more small patch while strolling around it. I've been looking for these things for the couple of years since I started hunting chanterelles, so I'm a little excited about this.

you shouldn't rip them out of the ground like that though.
Get some scissors, or a small pocket knife even, and cut them out of the ground. When you rip them out like that, you damage the fungus, and you minimize its chances of growing back again later in the season or next year in the same spot.
Seems like you know not to pick them when they are pins as well.
But definately save the mycelium you've got there and get your own patch going. Send some to me to. I want to hold a cyan. I'm from PA .

You should seek out P. cyans long-distant lover, P. cearulipes. I do believe it grows in PA, at least in part of PA.

It does grow in my area I believe. But it is so hard to find. I've been looking all over for it. The best i can do is find some p subbs.
But next hunting season I'm gonna hit up the big wooded areas in around me. I've got several places in mind, and I'm not coming home until I've got a pound of some actives.
I'm done playing hide and seek, and I'm ready to do some of this .

you should look near lumber mills and stuff like that. In wood chips beds. Basically the same habitat as cyans, i believe.

Just a quick question. Thought it was fitting for this thread, in a way.
I got some Cyans yesterday and in the drying process the caps blackened. Is that normal or have they gone bad?

Seems weird.. the caps blackening DURING drying? Answer is NO, they haven' 'gone bad'... but they may have lost potency.

What's the rule of thumb for dosing these things? My standard dose of cubensis is 1/2 an 8th/~1.5 grams. My plan is to grind them up and put them in size 1 capsules.

OK, dumb question- there are a million threads about this. But what size capsule would you use? I'd like 1 capsule to equal ~500mg of cubensis.
