mycelium did not bruise, a contamination?
    #7618646 - 11/10/07 12:51 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

so a friend birthed a cake that had colonized but on top there was some not-so-fluffy white growth that didn't exactly look like trich or cobweb... so he poked the thing and thought it should bruise if it's mycelium but it didn't bruise. he dunked it and said if it's a contam it will turn into a kind of slimy substance and that mycelium remains pure white after a 24h dunk.

opinions?

The growth on the top of the cake in the verm barrier should be washed off under the faucet after birthing. It won't be nearly as dense as the rest of the cake, and often contains contaminants.
