Questions about rehydrating

i've been rethinking my question over and i think i finally came up with what i needed to ask. the situation that i'm in right now is that i need to rehydrate my cakes. but for some reason the cakes just keep on popping out with new pins after the first flush. i read up on dunking and some people said it would cause the pins to abort and rot. i've tried using a syringe but i'm having trouble squirting some water into the cakes. would misting the cakes heavily be a good idea? or should i just dunk and run water over the cakes for a few hours and then remove the pins that are sticking out so they wont rot? i'm just kind of confused as to what to do after my first flush mainly because the cakes just keeeeeep on pinning! haha much help is appreciated. thank you!

It's perfectly fine to dunk with pins, they should come out all the better for it. Healthy pins will typically grow furiously during a dunk. You will probably have some aborts following the dunk, which you should remove prior to returning to fruiting conditions, but these may or may not be specifically caused by dunking. Regardless, your flush will thank you in the end.
Dunk away!

yah. dunk them if the pins are under 1/2 inch. hell, if ones bigger still do it. they will end up fine. or die. reguardless, the pay off is better after a dunk!

Dunking does not cause pins to abort and rot. Simply allow them to dry off after the soak by keeping good air exchange when you return to the fruiting area. RR

and so RR has spoken. just dont let your cakes soak too long. 12-15 hours will be adequate.
