Any one used a gas fryer pot burner to heat a pc???
    #7617900 - 11/10/07 08:46 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Hi, I just inherited like 20 bottles of propane, and I want to hook up this fryer burner I have to heat my new huge ass pc with. Any possible issues here? I know about the temps needed and all, and how to appropriately adjust the burner. Just wondering if there is anything to lose with this method vs. the stove.(mine's elecrtric)

Most every pressure cooker I have seen recommends strongly against using on deep fryer gas burners, that's all I know about it. I suppose it's fine as long as you take every precaution to monitor the BTUs being thrown out, but if you have an electric stove I don't see why you wouldn't just stick with that.

Ok, buddy. I really wish you hadn't starting acting like that. I am actually in my middle 20's and I own a house, a business, and I am a licensed contractor and consultant, so enough with all the penis comparing. Put your ego back in its can NOW. Back to the subject. The reason I asked is, I have these 20 cans of propane I inherited, sitting around with nothing to do. Did anyone here actually read my post start to finish? I want to utilize the potential energy stored in my property, i.e. the propane, and turn it into something besides wasted potential energy. I am currently paying money for converting the city's potential energy into sterilized lab tools. I wish to quit using this source of energy and instead tap into that propane, however possible, to attain my goals of using my pressure cooker. NOW, I am heading off to google to search for burners with appropriate setups for accompolishing this, since I suppose I won't be getting much help here. I thought maybe some one on this forum had some prior insight that wasn't biased and abrasive. I am not asking these questions as a newb, I have been on here for years, but I don't really have too high a post count. Why? Because I search most questions or comments away before I go posting for them.

Depending on the BTU's, you might want to run your burner at under full throttle if you're using plastic spawn bags. The flames that curl around the bottom of the PC and up the sides can melt bags that are touching the walls. This isn't a problem with electric burners where the heat is conducted directly to the bottom, but the convection heat of a gas burner can cause this problem. Other than that and of course the obvious oxygen requirements that I'm sure you're aware of, it should work fine.

Found my solution! My grill has the burner on the side, and it has a very adjustable burner, but best of all, it came with this huge flat griddle plate that is basically a heat diffuser for the burner. I have it on right now, got a timer going to see how long it takes to boil. I believe this will solve my problem! Thanks for the great info RR! As far as my spawn containers go, I was using bags with my little cooker, but I just inherited this hug ass pc (just like this one):

all american like mine

along with my propane. I really enjoy the ease of using rigid containers for spawning, so I went back to jars. I need 12 quarts and about 3-5 pints (jars worth that is) of wbs every batch of stuff I make, and I can fit 12 quarts and 3 pints in this no problem. I spend 2 hours a day usually on this stuff, and that involved 6 batches of stuff being pressure cooked over a few day period. This takes all that work out, and I can do this once and have everything I need for a month

when you're over 18, and have your own house, then maybe you should pick this hobby back up.

I'm really not sure how to do this without coming off as attacking, flaming or trying to start something, all I can do is preface this by saying that is genuinely not my intention.

That said, jeetered, the attitude which you bring sometimes to your posts here is just terrible, and I can't help but say something. It's obvious you have valuable knowledge to offer, but you should really consider modifying the absolute shit manners which seems to come along with it at times. Most of the time it's only slightly annoying, but there are cases like this where it just seems to me you are looking to bring people down.

I've seen many of your posts where you are nothing but polite and informative, that is the only reason I call attention to it. I know you can be a great poster.

Just used my new setup, and I have 12 qt.s and 3 pt.s sterilized! About to go set up the flow hood and do some g2g. They are outside on the porch cooling for another hour.

I think everyone is over it by now  Not to mention... I DO believe the world IS getting dumber by the day... Something in the water maybe? Or could it be that we have so many flashing lights, computer screens, posted signs to tell us what we have to do next in life... That we rule out altogether thinking for ourselves
I think yer alright... Just not as tolerant as some others... Nothing wrong with that.. People are people and they should be
