Good to hear i wasn't the only one that was freezing today with the cold winds.
It was fairly dark by the time i arrived to my usual spot, i had to use a flash light and after thirty minutes it felt as if my hand had frost bite
.. roll on next year!

I stuck it out,, all i could think all day was " last time,, ", so i couldn't pull myself away. Makes hard hunting tho when ur eyes are pissing streaming and you can't feel your hands.

Found a whopping 14 libs today! All of them were fairly under developed. They were not very new growth, because I remember the specific spots that I left them to mature 1 week ago. Also, most that I found stopped developing and dried in that level of maturity. Do these temperatures(below 0c) trigger a halt in fruiting? I wonder, since temps are going back up whether they will fruit again or if they simply stop for the season. My guess would be no more fruits. But I'll let a more experienced lib person answer that. Lib master where you at?(oh yeah, I didn't notice any pins either) Here are a couple shots from this morning's hunt.

if u left them a week ago, no way are they the same mushrooms, libs take 48 hours to mature from a pin, max.
when it gets to freezing point fruiting will stop, if its just a short freeze (2 or 3 days) then they will fruit again when conditions improve... personally i think it takes a good weeks worth of frost to kill them off... considering its predicted to freeze most nights for the next 2 weeks that is probably it for this year...
if u go look at my hunting thread u will see that i was picking in the frost the weekend before last, and they were growing again this weekend...
if we get any unseasonably mild weather then they might fruit again, but doubtful... i certainly wont be going out again this season. there will be a few growing perhaps, but not in any numbers great enough to tempt me out in the cold
nice frosty lib pics btw

That's around how many i was bringing home at peak season lol,, ,,, apart from one day after it rained i managed a thousand + from my usual spot.
Still, it's not bad for my first year out,, . I'll be doing a lot of scouting for potential new locations this year. Parking can be a bitch sometimes so it'd be good to find in advance some places to check next season.
Nice finds man,,

the lack of rain has been half the trouble this season... there was alot of pinning going on yesterday, thanks to some decent rain on saturday, just typical that the day after the rain the hard frosts have begun

The ground was drying to dust the last time i was out before Sundays trek,, we had a bit of rain Friday/Saturday but the ground was already drying out come Sunday.
Fingers crossed next year's wetter,, i'm hoping two dry seasons running is unlikely.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The ones that seemed to have been left from a week ago were shriveled up pins. The ones in the photos I just posted must have been relatively new. Nevertheless, there were only a few. My hands were so cold, I was happy to call it quits after only finding 14. Good to hear that it takes more cold to end a season. I'll be back out some time after next weekend. (Funny, just when I think I have enough for a year. I just can't help but look for more.)

Not over yet!(I've been dying to say that.) They're still out there...bout 50 today. I know. I know. Its not a lot, but its a small patch to begin with. There were several pins and its been wet recently.
C'mon God, you gotta do better than the frosts we've had so far to prevent these guys from fruiting! (watch, its gonna snow now)
What a difference the rain makes...Look!
I couldn't decide: flash or no flash?
 So i posted both.
If you can't tell, thats a dime and a 5pence. Both about the same size. Both about the same value:) In the pictures, the small ones are about the size that I've seen all season. Notice the difference in stem size too.
