spawing to coir

Is it possible to spawn only a few brf jars to a brick of coir?

Is it like hpoo and you can mix like 1 part colonized substrate to 9 parts hpoo.

Whats the ratio for Coir?

Generally the consensus is a 1 in 4 ratio of myc to coir. No idea why, but I'm not arguing - perhaps some more experienced people can chip in there for you. A brick will get you ~9 quarts of hydrated coir, so you'd want at least 2 quarts of myc to go for a spawning.

I'm guessing the reason behind not going over-ratio with the coir is that you are risking contams by upping the colonisation time - not what you want when working with a large amount of materials/time/effort.

Anyways, check out some monotub teks and look through those - especially oatman2000's tek which deals specifically with spawning to coir.

Cheers - boingkster

Have you actually had success with that ratio? I'm amazed! 1:4 is what I consider standard. 1:6 Your kind of pushing it because of such long colonization times. 1:9 Holy cow! I would have never considered it. But in answer to your question, I guess If you've had success at that ratio with hpoo, then you would definitely have success with coir. I treat them the same. How big are your jars?
