between flushes
    #504745 - 12/30/01 11:07 AM (22 years, 1 month ago)

I few of my 1/2 pint cakes are slowing down in producing mushrooms. what do i need to do between flushes? Ecuadors are what is growing and i am hoping to get a sencond flush with bigger mushies. the fist flushes had way to many small mushies that matured to early at like 1 in wet!1 some made it to be good sized but the majority were small. Ecuadors are known to have small mushrooms on the first flushes right?

they get plenty or fresh air, i fan them 3 to 4 times a day. is it posible to case between flushes? I am thinking of going that route. Most seem to get bigger flushes and bigger fruits that way

you can dunk your cakes for 12-18 hours so that they can be re-hydrated. it can increase your yields pretty good

Im not worryed about rehydrating them yet, like i said they are just finishing the first flush, can they be cased inbetwen flushes? or would it mess them up to break them up after fruiting has begun

You should be worried. I've only not dunked once, and regretted it. Took 2x as long to pin, and produced only 1/5 of the pins (in with 5 cakes which were dunked, so the conditions were the same)

What is the exact procedure for dunking? I have looked around a little and have not found too much information on it.

It's simple, take the jars that you originally colonized your cakes in. Fill them halfway with water (Any water is fine) Then put the cakes back in the jars so the water level comes up to the top. If it doesn't come up to the top add more water utill it does. Then screw the caps on the jars and let the cakes sit for however long you're dunking them for (I do 24 hours).

so then is it a good idea to dunk after every flush? soaking them for 24 hours is ok? Wouldnt that over hydrate the cakes? is it possible to break up a cake after a flush to case it? should it be dunked first?
