Psychedelics and preparation for death

I hear this concept bandied about. Let's take a closer look. I will outline three generic death scenarios.
1. Sudden death - heart attack, gunshot to the head, head-on collision; etc. If you don;t see it coming, there is no possible difference between tripper and non-tripper.
2. Long, protracted illness such as cancer, advanced diabetes, stroke; etc. Usually the pain and loss of physical and mental functions will prepare you as nothing else can. No difference between tripper and non-tripper.
3. You are not injured yet, but see inevitable death coming your way. You are on the 100th floor of the WTC. You know there is no escape and the fire is coming closer. Do you really think that the one guy with a recent promotion and new baby daughter will say to himself, "Hey, it's cool. I tripped in college at a Grateful Dead concert and saw some wild patterns. I am ready,"? Nope. No difference.

I'm not really sure where you're trying to go with this, but I'll say a few things:
1) no one can actually prepare for death as we will not ever know what it does or doesn't consist of, but we can try all we want
2) have you ever tried dmt or had breakthroughs on it? if not do so for a little while and come back to this thread title

I think psychedelics are used as practice to prepare for the peaceful stoned type of death

no but the very idea of losing yourself should seem less terrifying to those who have hit ego loss a time or two... and thus by changing the perception of death it can change the very way you live your life
Plus i think if you have let go into eternity once, you will have a little more faith/trust so that when that final moment comes there will be a little less resistance. I mean you are gonna go no matter what so it doesnt matter how much you resist...but it could make a difference as to whether the eternity during that last moment is experienced as hell or heaven....
though i am still alive so who knows... not me.....

Does one need preparation for a peaceful death?

It's not preparing for the actual act of death, or of being dead, It's dealing with them moments leading up to death, starting with the current moment. If a person is afraid of dying, they experience death every time they think about it. The act of physically dying is just a foot note. The fear of death IS death in a spiritual sense.

every time your stream of consciousness takes a turn you have a death meditation and psychedelics help with the stream of consciousness.
people have a habit of being too obsessed with death of the body which is the big tragedy of seeing a continuous self. the real tragedy is felt by family and friends, so you can't prepare for that.
so get back to the stream of consciousness, note how it disconnects and starts again. here you will see death. sex helps to make those disconnects. look again. you don't need drugs for sex and you dont need them for death or disconnects either. but some stuff adds a nice sparkel to everything in the stream

From my own experience with psychedelics, I think I came to better feelings (less fear) regarding death. It's not necessarily because it "simulates" death since nobody alive really knows how it is to die, so it's just dump to jump into conclusions about death through the means pf psychedelics.
But I had a few experiences on larger doses in which I had the strong feeling that I was one step to letting go of all, letting go of myself and everything that was related to my identity as I knew it. And my mind interpreted it as something similar to what death could be. And which in extent made me feel less fear towards the idea of dying. Fearing death is a mental process of holding on to everything that we are and everything that we are used to, and since a strong psychedelic experience can seriously shake those grounds, it is understandable that one might feel less anxiety when it comes to the idea that one will die one day. And sometimes the experience can be so strong and shocking that one might tend to think that he/she was only a step away to actually dying.
In my experience, this is a good exercise of becoming more relaxed, more aware of the present moment and therefore determined to make the best of the time we have here.

Psychedelics can help you prepare for life and consequently death. They can provide you with experience of overwhelming fear and so teach one something about the nature of fear and how to deal with it.
I'm afraid you are wrong about this. While psychedelics are not a cure all for death and life anxiety they can be very helpful for certain types of individuals of which you obviously are not one.
