City on Mars - The need to believe
    #7616927 - 11/09/07 09:26 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Seems those all a-twitter over the Face on Mars and Cydonia some 15-18 years ago have already forgotten. Now the internet is abuzz about a new Martian 'city'.

NO matter how many times the fantasy is smashed; either a new crop of believers or the old diehards arise like Phoenix from the ashes to promote the latest Planet X, or 2012 BS or whatever.

I suggest trying out reailty for a while. I know this is a dangerous and wild-eyed idea, but give it a shot.

Would I have to come to Vegas?

Vegas is as real as it gets, baby! Greed, fantasy, lust, violence, conniving; the whole spectra of the wonder of being human. Not like where you live and people pretend to be nice to one another.

Sucks to be you, we aren't pretending to be nice to each other here in Berkeley, we are genuinely kind AND happy.

Why don't you try believing IN POSSIBILITIES, it's precarious and sometimes scary, but more FUN than Vegas.

I been to Berkeley and I don't exactly think you are speaking about everyone who lives there. Just about your click.

Why don't you try believing IN POSSIBILITIES, it's precarious and sometimes scary, but more FUN than Vegas.

WTF does all that mean?

No, Berkeley is a really nice city. It has kind of a bad rap because there are some wackos there, but hell, they're friendly wackos. Until they go militant.

I'm trying to go to UC Berkeley, would be a dream come true.

Maybe not everyone, but far more than most towns.

I mean why does it have to be squishy believers vs. prickly skeptics.

What about us who aren't afraid to say MAYBE so, MAYBE not.

I wish I had, there are more cute girls at Cal than any other college I've been to.
The singer of Incubus at Cal Greek Theater said "This is the most BEAUTIFUL crowd we've ever played before."

Not to mention the academics... :smirk:

Even Swami could go there. It's those who say they "know" (without evidence) that get his hackles up. It's always fundamentalists who are sure.

Hmmm, let's see:

Beserkely has:

1.75 times the national average in ROBBERY
1.32 times the national average in AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
1.40 times the national average in BURGLARY
1.96 times the national average in CAR THEFT
1.48 times the national average in ALL VIOLENT CRIME
1.88 times the national average in ALL PROPERTY CRIME

This from www.cityrating.com. Seems like a lovely place to live wherein butterflies abound and unicorns prance in the parks.

It sucks to be me because:

A. I live an enviable James Bond lifestyle

or

B. I fail to believe than an eroded Martian mesa is a Sphinx or the JPG conversion lines and pixelation on a NASA photo is proof of a defunct alien civilization?
