My new Video Card
    #756225 - 07/18/02 11:24 AM (21 years, 8 months ago)

Ok folks, I just ordered my new Video Card.

I have a HP Pavilion XT 953

It has a
1.0 Pentium 3
512 Ram
and so on.

It has an Intel 82810 integrated Video card. On the mother board.

What I plan on doin is disabling the factory card and installing my new one.

Wel unfortunatley my computer does not have a AGP slot, the OEM VID CARD was integrated.

SO I had to order a PCI version.

I ordered the GeForce 4 MX 420 64 MB

So do you guys think that I will be able to notice a difference in my old card and the new one.

What about games.

What about movies and graphics, pictures.

thank you,

malibu76

well, you shoudlnt have wasted your money on a video card. You should have kept the hundered dollars and put it toward a new computer with AGP.

But yes you will definetlly see a drastic improvement, (in everything, overall video system performence will be increased about 10x) most of those shitty integrated intel chipsets only allow 1mb of vram.

check out www.anandtech.com and look at the unreal performence test 2003 results. Its the most comprehensive gpu/cpu benchmark list out right now. (except the radeon 9000, it should be above the ti4600, but i couldnt recemend an ATI card, they have lousy driver support)

>>I think people underestimate the impact a video card can have on a systems performance.

yes a lot of people do, but when your paying on average 40-50 more for a PCI version of a higherend card its more or less a waste. A PCI card is much slower then the currecnt AGP standards, also the on card speed is slowed down due to sdr ram being used on the card indstead of the much faster DDR. (and the faster standerd is currently being rolled out (AGP 1x is twice as fast as PCI, and AGP 8x is being put on motherboards right now.))

I was implying in my post that instead of spending the hundred dollors on a new card it could have been used toward a much better setup, you see he could have bought a different mother board for the same price and its integrated would have been 5x better, WITH an additional AGP slot to upgrade to a good card in another week or two.

On top of that it would have opened him up for further CPU upgrades, since almost all large brand name computer's motherboards are locked to the current speed.

So do you think I will notice anything at all. I mean if it is a total waste then I will return it. Yes I could get another Mother Board, but my case wouldnt hold it so I would have to get a case to. I know they dont cost that much but I just thought that since I dont play games a whole hell of a lot, that if this new card gave me a pretty good bump up in graphics and all then I would be satisfied until I could afford to do the new Motherboard upgrade.

Let me know
