Sure they should.

I think this is one of the biggest hypocrisies of the womens rights movements. They cry and complain about abortion as a womens right to choose, but then generally dont agree that a women has a right to choose prostitution. If a women has a right to her own body than prostitution should be legal. There is not even any controversy about what is and isnt her body with prostitution (as there is with abortion).

I wrote a paper about why prostitution should be legal and after some pretty thourough research I found it was about 50/50.

The main arguement I kept running across was that women are often coerced into prostitution or abused and they spread disease.

Those problems (to whatever extent they actually exist) could be pretty much eliminated though proper regulation.

Prostitution has not been demonstrated to be a primary means of HIV transmission, at least not in the United States, largely because most prostitutes insist that clients use condoms.

In several studies prostitutes who were not intravenous drug users actually have a lower rate of HIV infection than the general population. In one study of 535 prostitutes working in legal Nevada brothels none of them were infected with HIV. Prostitutes also show a lower incidence of all other sexually transmitted diseases as well.

Anything beyond fair taxation and fair regulation is a complete obstruction of individual liberty based purely on some moral philosophy.

It would certainly be safer for the women if it was legalized. They wouldn't be required to operate in back alleys and whatnot. They could organize legal brothels with proper security and standard health tests. Licensing would enable health authorities to mandate cleanliness and safety, too. Anything that makes their profession less dangerous and less unhealthy is a good start in my book. As it stands now, most prostitutes in America are at greater than average risk for substance abuse and becoming victims of violent crimes, and lack basic health care.

wtf is 'some restrictions' and why the fuck did people vote for it?

is it because it's a questionable topic and you feel guilty going for
the full monty?

I mean, seriously....what does that option mean and what meaning did
people ascribe to it consciously or subconsciously that motivated them
to choose it over the one with no qualifiers?

Probably the ones they've thus far stated.

Another restriction could be indicating where prostitutes would or would not be allowed to work. It'd probably be a smart idea to keep business away from public schools, public parks, churches, etc.

What are you so angry about?

Ya, the question of prostitution is always an interesting one. I voted with restrictions for the very same reasons as others - disease control.
It has been called the world's oldest profession. It has probably been the longest standing illegal act in history, but yet it persists. Does not make sense to me.  :commonsense:

Being told to do something vs being told not do something, which form of control do you prefer?

STD testing and not near schools and shit. Oh, and if your a tranny you have to let the perspective client know ahead of time.

I wonder who was the 1 person who voted no? What's his problem? While I'm on the subject, what's option 4?

amen to prostitution. remember, you don't pay a whore for sex, you pay them to leave after it's over.

I voted for restrictions cuz I believe they should have the same consumer protection laws all buisnesses should have. Additionally they should have to disclose their disease status and whether they use condoms every time. Violations should be prosecuted by individuals or government in limited circumstances where there is no clear damage to the individual
