id do mono's. they're less work. but your talking a 1:1 ratio you'd want something more like 1:3 or 1:4

That would mean Tim would need more horse manure. Is there anything bad about 1:1? The speed of colonization would be faster, wouldn't it?

yea it would be faster. but the whole point of spawning is to give your mushrooms more food to consume so they will turn out better.

This makes sense Blood2Blood, thank you for clarifying that.

5 pounds of horse manure/straw is roughly 6-8 quarts. If Tim goes a 1:3 ratio (1 quart rye to 3 quarts of hpoo) he will need roughly another 10 pounds of horse manure. Does this sound about right?

Horse manure is so expensive online (20lbs = $40 + shipping), and finding it in the big city is a difficult task:crazy:

1:1 spawn to bulk will give you a much higher chance of success without contamination than 1:3 or 1:4, with the only negative being that you will use more spawn. Either way would be fine, nutritionally speaking.

If you do a couple good successful monotub grows with that much spawn, you should be able to produce more shrooms than can personally consume in 6 months unless you trip every day.

EDIT: I usually recommend 1:1 or 1:2 for those new to bulk spawning.

Does this sound right mathematically:

(for 12 quart rye jars)
(Mycopath tells me 5 pounds = 6-8 quarts)

1:1 ----> 10 pounds of horse manure
1:2 ----> 20 pounds
1:3 ----> 30 pounds

etc etc.
