What type of effect from Pink Floyd are you referring to? Distortion sound? Delay?

maybe a nice lush reverb is what you're looking for.. it's a subtle effect though
I have a EHX holy grail that I switch on for solo's to make em smoother and fuller

I like EHX too. I have the big muff and bass balls. A friend has the holy grail and small stone. Great tones.

I always prefered a simple Envelope Filter. I think Garcia used them a lot.

I also have the small stone, great sound, but there is a little volume drop, and therefor I can't really use it in my band

He did, but it was also popular with a lot of other artists. Steve Kimock the MU-TRON III

Thats sound like a really good bit of kit. For $400 isn't too bad a price.

I think he used a big muff for distortion or a rat maybe? He uses active pickups too if I remember.

I use the Vox Tonelab LE.
it's a multi-effect box and i am LOVIN it. it cost me $419.99 (could've been .01 more!!!), and was worth every penny. I have only used (guestimate) 70% of the features and theres still so much more I can do (but am too lazy to figure out).
I recommend it :-D - it has everything you'll ever need in regards to effects for the rest of the time you play.
I know nothing replaces a nice stomp-box, and that was the viewpoint of my band's guitarist for quite some time. He always criticized me after i got the box, saying that individual effects are superior blah blah blah. Now, after getting his 8th & 9th effect, and a volume pedal, he has realized the VAST SUPERIORITY of the all-in-one box, and has expressed that he wants to get the same setup as me (the Tonelab LE).
I, of course, won't let him get the same exact one, cuz that'd be gay.

great pedals. they add a subtle trippy effect to solos and you can sneak in and out of songs.
i'd go with the Q-tron, it's the modern version from the same makers, but much less costy. The mutron is way expensive just because it's old-school.

To get the same sound, you need the same gear. If you don't have a Fender Strat you're wasting your time.
As for amps:
By 1970, [Gilmour] found his signature sound with a stack made of Hiwatt 100-watt heads with WEM 4x12 cabinets. The Hiwatt/WEM combination can be heard conspicuously on Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon. In the studio, he sometimes added a Fender Twin Reverb combo amp with two 12-inch speakers to his lineup for certain parts, as on Dark Side of the Moon.
And effects:
David Gilmour’s early Floyd effects consisted of a Binson Echorec tape delay (like Barrett, he used this device from his first days with the band), a Dallas-Arbiter Fuzzface fuzz box, Uni-Vibe pedal, Vox wah-wah pedal, a DeArmond volume pedal, and Leslie and Yamaha RA-200 rotating speaker cabinets. The latter were routed through the output sections of Hiwatt heads and then to WEM 4x12 cabinets. In 1972, his effects boxes were mounted in a custom cabinet, and his array of processors grew to include a second Binson Echorec and a second Fuzzface, an MXR Phase 90, a Crybaby wah-wah, an Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress flanger, Big Muff fuzz, an Orange treble and bass booster, and a custom-built tone pedal.
He also used .010 to .050 strings, IIRC
