I'm incubating my first LC. I have a big plastic tub with about 2 inches of water in it, with a $7 fish tank heater inside it, and my LC jar is sitting in that. I cant get it above 74 degrees, I'm not sure what to do. I dont have any cash to spend right now on a better heater and its getting damn cold at night now. Myc IS growing but its slowwwww.
I was thinking: Take out about half of the water. or Find a smaller tub or container for my lc.
any suggestions?

My incubator was sitting at around 75 degrees. It had the same set-up as yours. I insulated the inside of the top tub with blue board and wrapped a blanket around the outside container, and now she sits at around 77-79 which is OK cuz my jars are rocking fast.

Right on, I'll try the blanket idea, and wait.
Thank you both.

if just a normal blanket dont work, try a heating blanket if you got one. put it on its lowest setting and drape it over the top. ide watch the temperature though so you dont accidentaly bake the little guys.

I put the tub inside a big wooden chest, and then a thick blanket inside that, and shut the top, then put some sweaters on top of that. haha. should bring it up a few degrees. the myc grew alot since the last time I looked so im not too worried anymore. slow and steady.

74*F is just fine. I've cultured LC in the low 60s.
If your LC jars are actually SITTING in water, that's probably not a good thing. Are they completely sealed from outside air? If so, that's probably your issue - lack of gas exchange.
If not, having them sitting in water is going to make it more likely that they'll contaminate due to invading microbes hitching a ride on airborne water (humidity).
