No more jars?
    #7612786 - 11/08/07 08:51 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I have been reading quite a bit all over the internet about bleach dunking, and it seems that many people are finding wonderful results, if used correctly.

If this is the case, wouldnt it be possible to just use a portion of spawned bulk, dunk, then spawn to more bulk, removing a small portion once colonized, and repeat?

Other than the refresh of culture using multispore every now and again, jars shouldnt really even be needed anymore correct? Just a thought.

all things grow old and die, eventually senility would take over and one of the crumbles would lack the "will" to colonize anymore. Especially if you ever let it fruit...reproductive phases are the end of their lifespan in most cases.

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.

No I meant taking a large handful say, right before fruiting. Bleach dunk, and spawn. Colonize, then take another handfull. If say a coir bulk was ph adjusted and bleach was used, you could spawn several tubs worth in a period of ten to fifteen days without any syringes, gloveboxes, jars ect. Then you could just start over. Maybe I am just re-inventing the wheel, but it seems like less of a hassle.

Still no deal man, like Myco said, you can't postpone the inevitable...what you're saying is akin to getting a 20 year old guy to donate to the sperm bank, then cloning him, and the clone donating at 20, then the clone getting cloned...etc. The original guy has genetics of a 20 year old. His clone, when he reaches 20, will have the approximate genetics of a 40 year old. And HIS clone, at the same age, will be genetically 60 - or as is my understanding.

Eventually, you wouldn't even be able to get the clone to live to 20 - like that movie 'Jack' with Robbin Williams - because his genes would cause all the sort of problems associated with old age...organ failure, nutrient uptake problems, etc.

So in essence, no, you can't do what you've described. You *can* however, keep an LC in the fridge and keep using shots from that for quite some time as the low temperatures cause the myc replication to slow down dramatically and hence it ages far less. eg: a year in the fridge may only be equivalent to a week or so in 70~80'F temps.

Hope that all makes sense - boingkster
