Hello all,
I was walking in my neighborhood and saw these mushrooms growing from the soil. I'm no mycologist, but I think these may be psilocybe semilanceata (Liberty Caps) and need some help identifying them.
As I'm a newb, I'm going to post all the recommended info from the Hunting Forum Rules thread, so don't blame me if I put down a ton of unnessisary information; they're your rules!
Habitat Southern California, coastal city. Found the mushrooms growing from the soil in someone's front yard, maybe 100-200 feet of elevation above sea level. Average temperature lately has been around 65-55 °F and the weather has been very overcast.
Gills Medium-dark brown, still attached.
Stems Thin, moist, fragile... Colored light brown to light tan/white. Ranging from about 3mm-5mm wide and 4cm-6cm long. All stems were attached when I picked them, and most were still rooted in the ground.
Caps Medium-dark brown with a light tan top. Ovate shaped (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pileus_%28mycology%29). Diameter ranging from 1cm to 2.5cm. Soft and kind of rubbery texture.
Spore Print I'm doing this as I type. How long should I leave them on the white paper? I will provide pictures of the print when it's done. HOWEVER, some dead skin on my fingers turned blue and I can already see some blue coloration under the caps after I took a quick peak.
Scent The tops of the fresh caps almost have a minty smell to them, but when I pulled the stems out of the caps and smelled the underside, it smelled slightly more than slightly like the dried mushrooms I've had before.

Like I said, I'll put up the spore print when it's done. Thanks in advance!
